After RSVPing to a Big Sister Party for the little girl across the street, (AND starting a Big Brave Girl Farmyard Star Quilt as a gift for that party) her parents quietly informed us the party is both a Big Sister celebration, AND a low-key baby shower at the same time. I thought I had a few more weeks to create a quilt for their new baby who is due in October! Oh well, I can make this work, right? The mom told me they are working on new baby’s nursery, with a safari theme, so I dug through my stash and found some fabrics that fit.
Because I was now trying to finish two quilts at the same time, I ended up going very, very simple with my design. I started with 2 charm packs of safari prints (4 of each of 5 fabrics), and two matching packs of jelly roll strips. Both precuts were part of a box of fabrics my mom sent me when I was pregnant, so I actually made a tiny ‘keep in the car for whatever reason’ quilt for Ada with them at the time. One of the prints really, really doesn’t feel like it goes with the others, so I left that one out. I found 2 turquoise FQ’s, and some plain pink yardage in my stash.
I used the brightest colorful print as the inner border, and the darkest colorful print as the binding. I also found 2 1-yard precuts of this triangle print in my stash, also from mom, that I was able to piece together for the binding. It’s definitely not my most unique or inspired design, but it was made in a handful of nap-times, and came entirely from stash, so it was free. Hopefully it will be good for tummy time and other baby adventures.
