Scrappy Sea Glass Yarn Basket

One of the mega churches here in town has a giant indoor playground, set up to look like a town square, complete with a walking track around the play space, and tables and chairs for parents. I love bringing my daughter at least once a week, so she can run wild with other kids, and I can either get some work done on my computer (like now), or I can bring a small hand project to work on. A few weeks ago when I was trying to scrounge up a simple project, to make at the park, I was looking through my yarn stash and noticed just how big it has gotten. Time to stash bust some of this stuff!

I pulled out a bunch of partial balls and skeins of super bulky, and some worsteds that all went together well, and got to work. I love how easy it is, and how much yarn you can use up making one. The pattern is My Poppet’s Scrap Yarn Basket. I was able to use up 8 skeins, and make a dent in several more from my stash.

I did end up buying 2 more skeins of super bulky, to help finish the basket, as I had used up all of the super bulky I had, and couldn’t seem to make the top of the basket work with just worsteds. But they left nothing in my stash, so I count it as a win.

I think it’s going to be a housewarming gift for the family of a little girl Ada likes to play with. Her parents have been on the move for 5 years, getting constantly relocated for her dad’s job. But he finally received a stable position with his company, and they were able to buy their first house. Sadly it’s about an hour away, so the girls won’t see each other much, but we’re so happy for them getting to put down roots.

Don’t tell Ada, but I like these colors a lot! This will make a lovely housewarming gift for that family. They can take turns wearing it as a helmet.

The basket looks great. I love the colors and when a craft can be useful. I also love that it gave you an excuse to get a tad more yarn. Ha!
