At just over two, my daughter started asking to go to school. Requests went from occasional, to daily. By 2.5 she put on her backpack and told us she was going without us. We assumed we’d just have to wait till September, when she’d be 3.5, b in January, we got an email from our local YMCA (that we already attend), that they were opening a preschool for the Spring term. I emailed the Director, and asked a million questions. She was kind an patient, and told me that she would be willing to Ada the day after her birthday. On April 1, she got to start school!
She adores her teachers, and often tells me she wants to “live at school forever”. So clearly I needed to make End of the Year gifts for her wonderful teachers. Both of her teachers also work shifts in Child Watch there, and they had very helpfully made signs to tell us all about their employees favorite things. I snapped pics of each of their info and got to planning.
Miss D loves the color green, and her favorite treat is ice cream, while Miss K loves blue, and her favorite treat is donuts. I pulled out my bin of Mini Charm Squares and dug through for all the most fun greens and blues. I pieced and quilted the patchwork, and quilted it to batting, before assembling them into pouches. I added a D charm to the zipper pull of the green one, and a K charm to the zipper pull of the blue one. Then I put a matching Tony’s chocolate bar in each one, a hand written card from me (colored upon by Ada), and gift cards. Miss K got one to a local indie donut shop called Pandamonium, and Miss D got one to Cold Stone Creamery.
Since they are made from Mini Charm Squares (2.5" squares), they measure about 6" x 8", and yes, they were made specifically to fit those chocolate bars. I regret nothing. Both teachers loved them, and evidently snuck off to the front desk to show them off. And in turn, they sent Ada home with a copy of Oh the Places You’ll Go, with a note to Ada from each teacher. I’m so glad this was such a positive experience, and have already signed her up for class in the Fall.
