My daughter scored me a cute “Mollie makes” patchwork book in the charity shop. And there were some really cute patterns, including a Seminole pieced bag. I’ve never tried this technique before, so I gave it a go. It was an awful awful pattern.
The strips that you join to make the pieced section were cut at 1.5" of three colours, you used 7" in length, of one colour you only needed 1.5" but the pattern told you to cut each strip the full width of fabric (44" long!) so wasteful. Fortunately I spotted it and didn’t cut so much. I abandoned the pattern at this stage and winged it to make this bag.
Yesterday I did an indigo dyeing and cyanotype workshop, the fabric for the bag was this one small(!) cyanotype. I had about 3" inches leftover. The orange brown spots are from weld which is a plant used for dyeing, the cyanotype chemicals pulled pigment from the plant
I had so little that I had to piece enough for the base. Then hadn’t enough of either the blue or orange for the strap! But I found other stuff that worked. And orange lining!
In my search I found an old piece of tie-dyed fabric that was perfect for a cushion cover, clearly blue and orange is the vibe today. I never normally bother piping cushions, but I’m glad I did, I love the orange accent
That fabric is so cool! It’s so great that your Mollie found that Mollie Makes and it gave you just the right thing in that handbag! The cushion is both striking and cozy.
Oh, I love it! Is it the pattern from video I sent you? It looks like it but I don’t think so, I’ve had that saved for ages, whatever you did, it turned out great!

My living room has navy furniture and orange accents, so this thumbnail automatically drew me in! I love the cyanotype inclusion. It looks so adorable and honestly like a really great shape for a bag. I’m realizing that longer and shallower bags instead of narrow and tall are what I need to find my stuff in them! Otherwise, I feel like everything’s always getting lost!
