Love the cheery colors!
The time has come. Lol
I have to dig up my pattern and hope I remember where i left off. Both Kidlet and Himself were wearing theirs tonight so I really want to get mine done. It would be fun to get a pic of all 6 feet in Christmas socks.
You go girl, I have faith in you
You can do it, @AntBee!
I have one done (minus kitchener-ing the toe), and the cuff of the second complete. DS2 has some flu-like bug, and I’m rushing through these just in case it takes me down, too.
I hope you dodge it but good plan to keep racing the clock!
The sock and I are in a standoff I am seriously considering frogging to start fresh so that I can get fresh momentum.
Well done @tendstowardschaos ! It looks great. I hope you can avoid it, sickness is always something to avoid but mid-December is an especially unfortunate time to get ill.
@AntBee Sometimes frogging helps! Especially when you’ve picked it up and put it away many times and get lost in the pattern. You have some good motivation to finish yours now, right?
I’m looking at two solution options here. One is to put this sock to the side and start the second sock and ride that momentum through hoping that when i get to this part I figure out what I don’t understand. Then move to finish the problem sock.
Second option: frog the half-done sock and switch patterns.
I’m going to finish my coffee, try to find something to entertain my shadow away from my lap and pock a path.
How difficult is the pattern? If it’s really difficult I would just switch to a simple pattern and get them done in time. Especially if the extra difficult parts don’t add a lot of extra effect (unlike lace or something, where the hassle is worth it).
Honestly, it isn’t supposed to be difficult. I think it may expect a certain amount of intuitive thinking on the part of the reader which I don’t have being fairly new to socks. The first big problem is that I can’t remember exactly what the last thing I did here was. The pattern says something like, “until all stitches are worked.” And doesnt say how many stitches that ends up with so i’m not sure if i did that or not. Then picking up something from somewhere….
Truth be told I could probably just fudge it from here and make it good enough. I’m likely overthinking it all as usual. The other areas of life have been so needy of my brain power I just haven’t had the spare cells or fresh thinking to make it make sense in my over-full head.
But right this minute Himself has lured the Kidlet away from her choral performance of “Mom mom mom mom mom mom mom mom mamama mamama ma
Ma ma”* and maybe some yarn thoughts can break through lol and if all else fails i have a grocery order to pick up today- i can linger in the parkinglot solo and think my own thoughts.
*(Yes, that IS my name sung as the lyrics of Deck the Halls. Lol)
My vote is for starting a second sock, either with the same pattern (which might jog your memory on how to proceed on the first one) or with a new one that’s more of a mindless knit (which will at least give you some forward momentum).
Sidenote: I now have the ick, and so does DS1. DH has, so far, avoided it, and has now been sent to do the grocery shopping.
I just started the heel of sock #2.
Sorry you got the ick! Glad you can still knit! I hope your groceries come home as expected and no wacky not-quite-right substitutions!
Feel better soon!
Thanks! He does alright. He goes over the list with me, takes notes, and takes pictures of the packages we have at home.
That’s better than mine. He calls/texts a thousand times from the aisles and sends frequent text pics for confirmations lol
Again i say: god bless the inventor of curbside pick up.
My husband does all of the grocery shopping. He is having knee surgery in January and is already stressing out about how I will manage. He wants me to go with him to the stores the next two weeks to point out where everything is…I said “no”. I can wander around and find everything (which is why I don’t go, as it takes me hours due to my distraction disorder…).
He is pretty mad at me and said that he just going to stock up with everything and I can just concentrate on fresh foods and meats…I do have to remind him that I can actually grocery shop, but probably not as efficient as he does! ha
@AntBee … I think for 2024, I am going to adopt the simple sock with nice yarn method so I can finish socks! I love seeing socks in this thread that are beautiful just because of the yarn!
Isn’t it funny how we tend to get a little protective of the jobs we’ve adopted for ourselves? We do them for so long that we settle into an efficient routine that needs to be communicated to the person who will temporarily replace us in our solemn duty to stock the pantry, load the dishwasher, water the plants, fold the laundry, etc. I hover and correct whenever my duties are usurped, much to the annoyance of whoever was trying to help out.
My DW’s sock machine has been busy lately. I posted her rainbow socks earlier. I hope I get a pair for Christmas (or I just steal a pair).
She’s making me create a website and logo for her Crank In in June. I guess I do pay for yummy socks.
Those sock knitters are so cool! I hope you can snag a pair, too.
No pictures, but FIL’s socks are knitted. I still have to Kitchener the toes, weave in the ends, wash and block them, but the hard work is done. And, I still have enough of the yarn set to make some coordinating shorties for MIL (she has a birthday next month and loves handknit socks).
I was itching to cast-on something new, so I started a pair of socks for myself. The yarn is from Oink Pigments in the colors ‘Give Peeps a Chance’ and ‘Le Pink.’ It’s Targhee sock yarn…a new breed for me…and a heavier fingering weight compared to some other sock yarns I’ve used. It’s not super soft, but it has a nice spring to it and seems like it will be well-cushioned and durable.
Nice!! I also cast on a sock the other night. No specific purpose for it but I just had the itch. I’ve been working with a non-wool yarn (ONline Sensitive socks) and a slightly thinner wool yarn recently (West Yorkshire Spinners Signature) so it’s a delight to knit with a thicker, fuzzy yarn again - Drops Fabel, one of my all-time favourites. If we’re doing that LC fundraiser sale again, I’ll probably offer this for sale.
