This is the first bag I’ve ever made. I wanted to make it on my “new” sewing machine (that I got in March for my birthday), but it scares me and I got frustrated because I couldn’t even get the thread out of the thing that holds the bobbin to put in the new thread
I may or may not add the spiderweb square patches to the back, too.
I forgot to sew the edges at the top, but overall for a first time it’s not horrible.
If someone has a foolproof, complete beginner sewing machine lesson to recommend… I’d really appreciate it. My machine is Husqvarna Viking E20. I’ve looked on YouTube, but even the beginner lessons are too advanced for me
I looked up that machine and you have the front load bobbin. I haven’t used one of those. I found this video, not sure how much help it will be. It does look much more complicated than a drop it, but I am sure once you get the hang of it, it will become second nature.
I like the spiderwebs on the bag. Its such a fun detail!
I watched bits of a few videos and she seems to explain things pretty well. The machine set up video goes through how to wind and replace a bobbin, how to thread the machine, and how to start stitching (including what settings to use). The basic set up looks not too different from my Singer (though yours has a lot more stitch options!).
If you can’t find a beginner-enough video, it might also be worth asking around to see if there’s a local sewing teacher you can hire to help you get started, or some kind of fabric-people meet-up where you could find someone who’s up for being pestered with newbie questions. I’m sure it won’t take you very long to get going once you get past the bit of staring at the machine & feeling like flailing, but that first bit can definitely be intimidating.
