I’ve often thought if I wrote a cozy mystery I would use the old “hair gets into everything” situation for a clue gone wrong. “They think it was you, but you’re simply the one who made that blanket they bought at a craft show!”
I am sure my DNA is in every single yarn thing I have ever made! Man, I never thought about it, but, yeah, if a crime is done by someone wearing a hat I made, I am toast!
Last year I stitched some lemon slices on a piece of black quilting cotton. No reason…just felt like making something fast and cute. I was just going to leave it in the hoop, but I really loved what @Immaculata and @jemimah were doing with some of their stitching, especially making pouches!
Well, at last, here is the pouch I made. I lined it with yellow so I could see what was inside. I am going to use it to hold yarn and supplies to knit some socks for the summer. It is just the right size to carry around with me or toss into a tote bag!
After I made it, I decided it needed a handle and a zipper pull.
Here is the original hoop:
It’s so cute, Linda! I love it!! What a great showcase for that awesome embroidery!!!
That is just gorgeous, I love it!! The yellow and black and white work so well together
Thanks! I want to do orange and lime slices as well. The black and white will work with those colors as well to make a nice set!
Oh that will be beautiful! You are so stylish!
Hey you guys…I am doing the Making Zen 2025 free classes, which has a lot of stitching projects along with mixed media, felting, etc. Anyway, if I learn one thing, I am happy. Not sure if I am the only one who didn’t know this, but now that I do, I want to share!
I often have trouble threading my needle or I can’t find my threaders. Here is a simple way to thread a needle…I am not talking about sewing thread or a tiny eyed needle…mostly embroidery…
Make a mini airplane, slip your thread in the fold, insert into your needle! I’ve made a dozen or so of these little airplanes to keep with my embroidery supplies. If the point gets smashed or bent, you can snip it off to get a clean cut or make another airplane!
Don’t laugh, but I think it is genius!!!
What a neat trick! Regular embroidery floss isn’t bad, but metallic threads like to fray when I try to thread them… I’ll have to try this.
I finally did some stitching! I learned Chicken Scratch embroidery, which is really simple embroidery using gingham fabric as a “grid”. Not really my style, but I did like learning the history and how to make all sorts of patterns. Seems like a lot of cultures have some sort of “grid” style, including the Japanese sashiko.
The free project was to make a needlebook. I used a scrap piece of Tula Pink fabric, from the Cat collection I bought a few years back. No idea why, but I had yards of that red gingham and also found blue gingham in the same box…what project was I saving it for? Who knows!
How fun!! Love your needle book and thank you for sharing the threading trick!! So clever!
I’d like to join, late. I’ve started this project and could use inspiration and encouragement. There have been a million of these on YouTube, scrap that will eventually become a pouch. This is where I’m at so far. Freehanded and completely unplanned.
Excellent! I love this project and can’t wait to see it evolve.
It’s never “late” to join. Things are very free-spirited over here, lol. I’ve tried more structure and it doesn’t really seem to increase participation. It’s just a lovely little place to share your stitching!
We do have a new theme coming up for the summer quarter…it’s simple…finish (or even just work on) a WIP. This project fits that nicely!
I think I have a project or two for this theme…
Hahaha…same, same.
I actually don’t have any WIP apart from this one, I don’t do a lot of hand sewing. Too many crafts, too little time!
We must be watching the same videos! I pulled fabrics to make a patchwork pouch but I also want to embroider it! I am following this one.
Your dandelion is lovely!!
That is a very cool trick, and your needle book is absolutely adorable, I love the retro feel! When I see Chicken Scratch embroidery I immediately go back to memories of my grandmothers. I remember tablecloths and napkins and aprons in green gingham, decorated just with white thread.
I love that evolving cloth @Edel!
I haven’t done much stitching for a while, feeling pulled in a million directions at the moment. But I love seeing everyone’s projects!
