Underbust pinafore

Years and years ago, I pinned this pinafore tutorial and put it on my “make it for myself” list.

I finally got around to it yesterday. It took less than an hour. Heh. At least I finally made it.

I did make some modifications — namely I made the skirt a half circle skirt rather than a gathered rectangle. My fabric is a heavier weight than the sheet used in the tutorial and I didn’t want a bunch of bulk at the waist.

Super cute retro look! It would take me an hour just to cut it out!

That’s adorable and you kind of look like you belong in a Studio Ghibli film!

Thanks everyone! I’ve decided this summer is the summer of me. I have several additional projects I want to make for myself.

This is such a cool piece, and you look great in it! And I really like how you styled it with the hat and boots!

Thank you for linking the tutorial! I ended up making one last night. Easy concept, but wow, did the gathers take long time (I used clips instead of pins, to save my hands from wounds ), and I had forgotten how to install a zipper but it’s attached! I had an old bedsheet, and a vintage zipper from the 70s already on hand, so a $0 project! 🩷
