For the Summerween Swap, I wanted to paint something fun, monstery, and beach-centric. While pinning ideas I stumbled across a hillarious image of a woman lounging on Miami beach with her pet alligator. I was instantly obsessed. Further investigation revealed the image is AI generated rather than a genuine 1960s snapshot, alas. But the scene was too perfect not to use as a reference (adding my own spin, of course). The little monster is named Squiggle.
As with so many of my paintings, I don’t have a ton of progress pics because I get so into painting I forget everything else.
I ended up scanning the original and using it to add artwork to the side of a container for my Summerween Swap partner. The original painting will be part of STS.
That spf 5000 made me smile.
This is a fun painting, but can we talk about your shadowing? It’s so well done! I’ve flipped back and forth between pictures 3 and 4 multiple times and I’m so impressed by your attention to the shadowing details!
@AudiobookLover - I was worried I ruined things by adding the umbrella shadow because it affects such a large area. I’m so glad it’s effective and not too distracting though!
