Velvet Elvis the Spider

This is the main item I made for my partner in the All Hallows Swap.

The red fabric is actual velvet, leftover from a project from 20 years ago. I painted the spiderweb on with silver acrylic paint, which was not as easy as I had expected. But, I’ve never painted velvet before! During this part, my DH walks by and says something about velvet paintings needing to be of Elvis. So, the crochet chenille spider got named Elvis! He felt that was satisfactory. lol…

The frame was originally a gaudy cheap frame someone gave me. I painted it black and purple AND you can’t see it but there is also black lace along the edges.

So cute!!! Did he say it should be Elvis because there were lots of black velvet paintings back in the day? I like that it’s named Elvis regardless. It’s a really cool multimedia piece!!

Velvet Elvis the spider is quite at home adorning my walls with all his other eight legged friends.:spider:

Yes! He later came up with a list of appropriate velvet painting subjects (from his 1970s childhood?) but Elvis was at the top. :joy:

I bet the velvet looks so lush in person. I like that you used different textures with the velvet, the painted lines, and the crochet. I’d let Elvis live at my house any day!

That’s quite a compliment for both me and Elvis!
