I made a chocolate banana bread. I’ve made banana bread with chocolate chips before but never cocoa.

I used a recipe from Sally’s baking addiction. I’ve always had good results with her recipes.

Aniseed bread rolls - a type of bread we eat in my hometown in December. As a topping, we put spiced biscuits on them. Yes, we eat bread topped with cookies as a meal :yum:

Looks yummy! Also, looks like something you can make and give as a gift!

@Immaculata It does sound a bit odd, but always fun to learn about these traditions!

Mine are still in the oven but they’re supposed to look like this:

The rolls contain aniseed and cinnamon and the biscuits are pumpkin spice - ish.

Mmm…these both look amazing. Don’t forget about the Bake Off Challenge!

Sounds like my kind of meal :joy:

I have another idea for that

I had to make a second batch because these disappeared before I could even take a picture (I had one, I think, or two …) .

I will post the recipe tomorrow, and I think if you’re interested in trying, it would be very easy to make a vegan version.

We cooked a full turkey dinner last Friday and are still eating the leftovers! I froze broth and some soup, it’ll last well into the new year I’m sure.
It’s a learning curve getting used to this new/old stove in our weekend place. It’s, shall we say “fussy”? lol

3 burners work but 1 only on high & another only on medium. And the teeny wee oven is an unpredictable adventure. Ha!
So we picked up a convection oven/air fryer that works amazingly well and is plenty big enough for just the two of us. A bit overkill for toast but I’d feel silly getting another appliance just for that :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

That potholder hook caught my eye…

It does look really, really cute!

I’m frying outdoors, homemade potato chips / fries. Super simple and delicious but not an everyday meal. Christmas Eve dinner is steak & chips (and green beans + salad) and ice cream for dessert.

I have an idea… not sure how it’ll turn out.

Is it breaded cheese something? Nom!

Tonight’s NYE dinner will include Potato au Gratin Dauphinoise a la Jeffrey Steingarten, the author of The Man Who Ate Everything, which is made with heavy cream, NO CHEESE!

I love this recipe & make it for special occasions, even though I am missing the very tip of one finger from the first time I tried it.
That was the last time I used a mandolin shudder. There’s a funny story about the trip to hospital that night. I’ll tell it to our guest this evening. After we eat! lol

The cheese is a domestic halloumi knock off so I just fried it without breading it. I cooked some bulgur with finely chopped celery and shallot onion plus a pinch of an umami stock cube.

I made a dressing using juice from half an orange, saffron, black pepper, bit of salt, and some sherry vinegar.

Tossed the cheese in half the dressing, added bulgur and tossed ot with the rest of the dressing. Added some raw shallot and sprinkled celery on top for a pop of colour.

It was very nice actually! Perfect lunch before we started the more involved ”new years dinner”project.

When I was growing up, New Year’s Day dinner was sauerkraut, potatoes and pork of some kind. Not my favorite meal. I never understood why since my dad was a Southern, except that we did live in Germany for three years so my mom probably picked this up there. She loved sauerkraut!

My husband’s family ate the same meal but they are of German descent, but he also was not a fan.

When we moved to Atlanta, we started making the Southern traditional collard greens, black-eyed peas, cornbread or biscuits and fried chicken or ham. That what we are eating today. Can’t wait for dinner!

Happy New Year, everyone!
