Yuji Itadori Cosplay - Halloween Spooktacular Entry 2025

DS2 wanted to be Yuji Itadori from Jiu Jitsu Kaisen for Halloween. I asked if I could make his costume for him and he reluctantly agreed. Lucky for me, my sewing skills made the grade. He really liked it and was very comfortable.

Using reference photos from the internet, I figured out that these patterns would give me a good place to start.

The black linen trousers were made using Simplicity 1504. I shortened and widened the leg, added pockets, and did a roll-over elastic waistband.

The red hoodie is cotton French terry. I used Butterick 6867 for this, adding on the modified hood from the Burda pattern.

And, the outer jacket is the Burda sweatshirt pattern. I didn’t do the color blocking, but the front had to be redrawn to cross over itself (it has velcro at each shoulder). It’s a cotton blend French terry.

I’m finding myself really in love with the hoodie in particular!

Thanks! It was fun to make this for him and watch him enjoy wearing it all day.

You did a fantastic job! Especially just figuring out what to piece with what to make it work! It turned out really well and certainly better than a $50 costume you’d get at the Halloween store which they actually have now! Back in my day we had to make our own cosplay. :laughing:Anime wasn’t popular back then. Crazy seeing all the kids are into it now!
He’s lucky he has you!

I hadn’t heard of this character, but the outfit looks great and it really resembles the original. Also, depending on his style, I can totally picture him wearing different parts of the outfits again, not as part of a costume but in everyday life.

I don’t know the character, but I love the hoodie!

Utterly nailed it! There’s no way an affordable store-bought version would be nearly as good!

Thanks, everyone! He originally just wanted to buy the mass produced costume and boots, but he has some sensory issues. I wanted him to be comfortable (and I also didn’t want to spend a huge amount of money on something that wouldn’t last or be so uncomfortable that he would only wear it once and be miserable for the duration), so I made my pitch. Each piece can be easily laundered and is made in soft, breathable fabrics. The linen trousers will probably fit him well into next Spring/Summer. The boots are sturdy, leather boots that he can wear on Scouting hikes or in the snow, too.
