"20 Weeks to 20th" digital photo collages

Hopefully digital collages still fit within the paper & vinyl/collage category

For our 20th wedding anniversary this year, I tried to make a “20 weeks to 20th” thing, where each week, I would give my husband a collage for the year that represented that week. So, when there were 20 weeks left until our anniversary, I gave him a collage of stuff from 20 years ago (2006), when there were 19 weeks left, stuff from 19 years ago (2007), and so forth.

On the front, there would be pictures of us/our famliy, with a list of things that we did/happened that year with us, and on the back, I’d have some interesting/fun things that happened that year in the world, and some more photos if there was enough room.

I would love to say that I did one for every single week, but “Hello, 3 kids and ADHD, and 5 people with ADHD in the same house, and getting my son ready to go into school for the first time, and all the other things.” Thankfully, we all are very forgiving of each other when we don’t follow through on some stuff, because we all “get it,” lol!

But here are the ones I made and remembered to save

5 Weeks to Our 20th Anniversary, front page

5 Weeks to Our 20th Anniversary, back page… The picture is supposed to say 2021; not 2012, lol… I’m pretty sure I corrected it by pen because I only realized my typo after I had already given him the page… :woman_facepalming:t4:

One Week to Our 20th Anniversary

Back

First column of photos, left side, top to bottom

  1. Disturbed concert, Toronto (a birthday gift for Dan)
  2. Demolition in our basement; Dan accidentally sent a message to the family group instead of his friend groups saying it was time to f* up a wall :joy:
  3. Dan’s brother’s 50th birthday celebration in Toronto

Middle Colum of photos, top to bottom

  1. Fun photo on the walk to M’s school
  2. G & I took an archery class together; here he is showing his bull’s eye
  3. Dan and G. climbing; this was the first time Dan managed to make it back to his beloved climbing gym after his hospitalization; I was so happy I almost cried.

Final column of photos, right side, top to bottom

  1. Our family takes a walk by the lake during Dan’s recovery
  2. Halloween; G was a ninja; M was The Lorax, and K came up with her own version of Batgirl
  3. One of Dan’s very good friends gets married after his fiancee also recovered from a serious hospitalization. Apparently it was the year for a bunch of people to almost die, but there were many joyous occasions also.

Our 20th anniversary
The collage on our anniversary was just of us over the years we were dating, until we got married on the front, and then the other years on the back and third pages.

Photos clockwise from upper left:

  1. (2001) Before we started dating; playing at an arcade in London, ON, where we met.
  2. (2002) Dancing at the “Atomic TOE,” Toronto’s 2nd Lindy Hop exchange (Dan and I met at the University of Western Ontario’s swing dancing club).
  3. (2003) Dan’s “martini party” at his apartment in London, ON.
  4. (2004) My citizenship ceremony; I am wearing my Navy uniform. I had been serving for 3 years by that point; back then landed immigrants were allowed to join the military so long as they attained citizenship within 3 years. Which was a strange rule, because you couldn’t apply for citizenship until you had been a landed immigrant for 3 years. But I requested an extension and was granted it without issue, and had my citizenship a few months after, regardless.
  5. (2004) At a swing dancing workshop weekend at Queen’s University, my alma mater (I transferred after Dan graduated from Western). Dan proposed in front of all our friends after my birthday circle*
  6. (2008) Dancing at “Kitsilano Beach showboat,” a swing dancing spot in Vancouver, during our U.S./Canada 2-month road trip. We travelled from Ontario all the way to British Columbia, down to California, across the southern U.S. to Florida, then up the Atlantic coast all the way to Newfoundland, and back to Ontario. 10 years later, we would do a very similar trip in reverse, with our 3 children in a big R.V. Ah, the memories
  7. (2009) On an outing in Prince Edward County for our third wedding anniversary.
  8. (2006) Our wedding day. One of my favourite photos. Credit Danielle Rabbat Photography
  9. (2007) During our honeymoon in Brazil.
  • In swing dancing, circles are a tradition for birthdays, out of town visitors, etc. The person or people “of honour” stand in the middle of a circle, and people cut in to dance with them throughout a song.

We travelled from Ontario out to Newfoundland, down to Florida, through the southern U.S. to California, then up the pacific coast and back to Ontario. We skipped B.C. this time, which I’m still a little bitter about, lol
