2020 DeStash-Along

Is anyone’s local hospital specifying what type of pattern they’d like? Ours just requested double layers of cotton in kids and adult sizes, but no guidelines beyond that, and there are so many patterns floating around there at this point that I’m not sure where to start.

I was also told that two layers of cotton…outside and lining…ties or elastic…I am making the kind with the elastic behind the head because I was told behind the ears can be uncomfortable for some…

Yes. Our hospital specifically requested this pattern.

It is two layers, can be made with ties or elastic, has a pocket to insert a filter, and has a nose wire.

I’ve had a bunch of leather scraps for ages now. They were bought for a 12 days of Christmas swap but didn’t arrive in time to go in the package, so I’ve made a little book. Using the ancient Earth mini journal tute that was linked on the old place.

And I got to use some scraps of fabric!

My papers are not too tidy, but practice, practice, practice!!

Stash of leather:

Now, I have to try and work out where to get more paper!!

Thanks for posting this! Awesome little journal! I don’t have real leather scraps but I do have a bunch of faux leather that would work!

I have admired these handmade journals for so long…so many ways to embellish and they are a handy size to use…

Awesome! I have leather envy for sure.

For paper, anything is useful. I’m still getting a lot of junk mail. Paper bages, envelops, fliers etc, everything becomes a blank slate with a wash of paint applied. Here’s a book made from brown paper bags that I’ve tried a few times.
Is there a reason you stitched pages together? You’d have twice as much paper without that step.

Ren, I really like your book and all the leathers are so lovely. Well done!

The stitched pages was just because of the tutorial I followed!! I didn’t know anything different :joy: :grinning:

I tried a page from a kitchen catalogue with some acrylic paint, seems it’s going to need a few coats, but it’s all learning.

Any other hints and tips are very welcome

@MightyMitochondria - thanks. I have quite a few so there might be more soon. Although if I make them all into little booklets I have no idea what I will do with them! It’s a fun project and made easier by the little kit I bought that included an awl and waxed thread.

There was a craftalong started at the last site, lots of great ideas and tutorials linked there.

You can also make book pages from fabric which looks so groovy and is on my list to try.

Thought we could use a laugh today…

I broke my resolution not to buy new supplies, but I am doing the National Park Hats knitalong and just did not have yarn suitable. I bought enough to get me through about 4 months, so nothing excessive!

Hahaha! I need to craft that onto something!

What is the National Park Hats knitalong about?

There is a hat every month based on a National Park. Proceeds from her sales go to support the parks. Here is more information on the first hat I knit. I did not have the yarn for January or March hats so I am a bit behind.

You can read more about it here:

A few years ago my work participated in a study about rhino hormones and hormone detection mostly centered around their poop. As a thank you the researchers sent all of us these little poo emoji stuffies. He has been sitting on the shelf over my toilet ever since. I decided we needed a bit more bathroom humor so I made him a little sign/stand. The sign is a old box I have horded for years (“it’s a good box, I can’t get rid of it” -me everytime I try to clean my craft space) covered in scrapbook paper and some scrap vinyl. Didn’t make a huge dent but I was very excited to use that box lol.

I have many such boxes that I just can’t toss!

Your project is hilarious and timely…never in our lifetimes has TP been the focus of many everyday conversations…I just hope my Amazon monthly delivery comes through by the end of the month!
