Nice way to change up the colorway in those last mitts! Lots of knitting going on in your house!
I went through my scrap bag today. It’s one of those big old paper bags from way back when paper bags were sturdy. It’s filled with my grandma’s, my mum’s and my mending scraps. My grandma gave it to me about 6 months before she died, when she finally decided to let me do her mending. She died four years ago and now was finally the time to go through the contents.
Honestly, I hardly threw away any of her scraps. Most of what I got rid of was my own. Compared to her fabrics, mine were such poor quality. It’s shocking how much better the old fabric is, even though my grandparents were really quite poor back in the days, and we have much more to spend. Especially the simplest scraps - simple white sheets - I seriously have no idea where I could buy sheets like that today.
I have plans for some of the oldest scraps (from my mum’s childhood clothes from the 1960s). I’m going to turn them into a pouch or something, something small and practical. I know she’ll recognize them instantly.
@sheepBlue - that is a fab collection of projects! When do you sleep?!
That sounds like a lovely and nostalgic project for your grandmother’s scraps, @Immaculata.

Nice keepsakes!
My mom used to point out bits of a quilt her mother made, and tell me “This was a blouse she made me when I was ten…”
I do that with this quilt that took me decades to finish.
I started collecting the fabric when I was 16. Such a lot of memories.
Nice! I have a quilt like that, too, started it in childhood. It’s funny how us fabric people connect these scraps to memories and clothes. I instantly recognize grandma’s apron and the dress I got when I started primary school. I remember a lot of outfits starting from when I was really young.
Thanks all - knitting keeps me awake at night so I don’t fall asleep too early lol. I don’t have anything on the needles at the moment, and I feel a bit at odds.
That quilt is lovely, imbued with precious tactile memories
@sheepBlue your knitting is spectacular, I adore those scrappy mitts!
@Magpie your quilt of scrappy memories is so warm and wonderful!
I just tentatively sold 2 small looms (will be taking them to a weaving meetup in June where the buyers will pay and pickup). Still dragging my feet on getting pictures and listing some of my bigger looms for sale but progress!
That’s fantastic! I know you said small, but with looms two of even the small ones sound like they will free up a lot of space.
These are actually pretty small, about 20"x12"x12" (about the size of a sewing machine) so not floor looms
Thinking of how much fabric/yarn/paper I could pack into that sort of space, I’m still going to call it “a lot”
Or paint! One sewing machine space worth of paint is a lot.
I too have looms & spinning wheels in the give away pile. I just don’t have room, or time. I’m sad about it but what can you do? The days are short & work is demanding. Oh well.
A lost tooth in the house means a last minute (and of course wonky) tooth pillow. Stash to the rescue!
That turned out great! Is the tooth fairy going to keep all the teeth…what does one do with them? lol
It came out great! Very sweet.
I had a book when I was a kid, that explained that she built her castle out of the teeth she gathered. It was supposed to be sweet, but thinking back, it was kinda gross.
@Abbeeroad , this is adorable. The squares are so tiny!
I buried all the baby teeth, hair clipping, nail clippings (sh, don’t judge), umbilical cords & placentas at the cottage. It was quite the collection.
I kept my wisdom teeth when they got pulled…meant to craft some jewelry with them, but it…felt weird the longer I had to be wearing my own teeth lol. Still have them though.
Lol. Do you want them?
Haha no! I don’t know what to do with my own teeth!
