Most of my sewing is on a very small scale so they don’t use up much material. Compared to my usual dolls, American Girls are giants, so for once I felt like I was making progress on the destashing front in a single project. Another shift dress with extra long velcro for accessibility purposes!
I have one kallax cubby in my craft room dedicated to jeans, t-shirts and old sheets for a future quilt (we have a 10 year old used denim quilt on the bed). I pulled that whole bin out, there’s more than enough in it for another one. I hope to get started on that during the holiday weekend.
well done!
I am about to do the opposite of destash. A mini-Joanns near me if closing so everything is on sale. It started on Wednesday and my mom went yesterday and said there were a lot of empty shelves already, but I am going to see what they have. All the fabric is at least 30% off. Everything else is 20-50% off. I have a budget that I will stick to though.
Have fun!!
Hope you got some good bargains to share in the crafting supplies thread!!!
My adult stepdaughters have been staying for a visit, we had a lovely time. I was doing a bit of sewing, and wanted to make them something little, so I made a batch of zipper pouches with fun linings, all from stash. They seemed to like the ones they chose - handy for packing their suitcases too
I bet it was hard to choose! Pouches are so handy for so many things…and they are so pretty with the choices of fabrics! What a lovely and thoughtful reminder of visit with you!
I find zipper pouches and mug rugs are such a go-to make for me - I’m always using them, and easy to make with my scraps and notions on hand. The girls immediately had things to stash in them, so that was good
Omg. Black and white with Star Wars lining?!? Surely that was supposed to come live with me.
I love having little hand made things for guests to pick/choose from. I should work on stuff since I might have guests at the end of the month.
I was given this kit years and years ago when I was in hospital. I didn’t even like it then, but I stitched 2/3 of it because I was bored and didn’t have anything to do. I abandoned it at some point during my recovery at home because I got lost on the pattern.
You know what? I’m going to destash it!
Also, it came from the clearance bin at the craft store (the clearance sticker was still on it when I got it) and I don’t mind that in itself but I’m 100% sure the person buying it as a gift for me just picked the cheapest kit they could find. It wasn’t a gift that meant anything to them and I shouldn’t feel bad about not finishing it. It came with enough DMC thread to stitch the piece twice so I’ll salvage that.
I would so bind a book with that as is.
This is why we can never get rid of anything, lol
I also found some unfinished pieces and decided that instead of torturing myself for not wanting to finish them, I am going to use them in some sort of junk journal. I read an article that said to use a thin wash of glue and water on fabric pieces to lock in any fibers and then treat them like paper pages. I also can see that piece as part of a journal or even a lining for the inside covers…it is lovely!
Lol I can send it to either of you guys but it needs to leave my house asap I’m not putting it back in the hopes I’ll turn it into something else sometime in the next decade.
I’ll happily adopt it if you feel like going to the trouble of mailing it to Canada. I totally get it if you want to chuck it in the bin tho.
I have finished three swaps; managed to do two entirely from stash, but couldn’t make #3 work until I got some new beads. The rest of the necklace–chains, beads, pins, clasp, skulls-- was stash, though!
I turned some little embroidery bits and fabric scraps into mug rugs for my gifts/giveaway/swap extras drawer. All stash.
They’re all so pretty! But that one on the right with the embroidered flower in the middle
This is such a good idea! I should start one.
