2024 DeStash Along

That pom pom edging is fantastic!

And now I need a bobble edge bunting. LOL

I just rearranged and put a bookshelf where one loom lives so now I need to either sell it or another loom (I was always planning to sell one more but was dragging my feet). I think after the next loom goes I’ll have cleared out all of the looms I don’t like weaving on and should be at a really good place loom wise. I’ll have my huge loom which I -love-, it’s such a dream to weave on, a small folding 4 shaft loom, a small folding 8 shaft table loom, and a small 2 shaft loom for band weaving.

Plus now I have even more storage for the art books to at are rapidly making their way into my house

Yay! I’m already working on something red. Now for the other challenges.

I haven’t been doing much crafting at all, way, way too busy with work :persevere:. But we are going on a trip soon and I need a travel bag so I started to draft a carry-on the other day. Sadly I did not have the right fabric and had to buy.
However! A friend of mine asked me for some card supplies the other day and I sent her a big box full of random bits and bobs, stickers, paper, ink pads, and a big container full of colour pencils so that’s kind of a destash, right?

That’s a definite de-stash! And, even though in different craft categories you kinda did the “one in one out” game there by bringing in the fabric but sending out the paper. Well done!

I also feel differently about buying supplies for things you’re definitely going to make and use, like a bag, rather than buying shiny new supplies that are amazing but you don’t have an actual plan with.

At peak stash I had two Ikea bins full of upholstery fabric, but I had plans for it. Now I’ve just got about a yard of green velvet left over, that’s definitely stash. Maybe I can use it for a Christmas project later. I’m afraid that if I don’t make plans for it it’ll still be here in 10 years.

Underestimated how much fabric for a carryon (it’s big!) & had to go back for more. But I’m using up lots of interfacing, thread, some cool zippers @AIMR sent me, & stash fabric that happens to coordinate.
I also have some inherited designer brand cashmere & lining fabric to sell when we get back. I’m just never going to use that for anything, really.

Way, way, way back in the day, I knit a Dr. Who scarf Christmas stocking, and I had a ton of yarn left over. I knit a 15-16 ft. scarf with the rest of the yarn, and it sat in a plastic bag for a decade, ends not woven in, nearly forgotten. A couple of years ago, I unraveled the scarf, and kept the pieces of yarn in a box. And today, I untangled all of the pieces and separated them. The goal over the next few weeks is to make a baby blanket for a coworker who is due in a few months. Posting for accountability!

Challenge 1: Try to make some inroads on a supply that takes up a lot of room. You can interpret this as the supply itself being bulky or just having so much of a supply that it needs a lot of storage space.
Challenge 2: If you are the sort who crafts for the winter holidays, start making a plan now.

Thanks for doing this!

I’ve been thinking about what to do for end-of-year gifts for our Children’s Librarian and teacher gifts. Currently I’m leaning toward spa sets (Wash cloths and farmer’s market chunky soaps or something). Last year they all got fingerless gloves. I still have time for overthinking, thank goodness. lol

I’ve got a potential buyer coming on Sunday for the last loom I’m hoping to sell.

ETA - looks like she found a loom locally and won’t be coming after all.

I only managed to do these hats for the “red” prompt for July. It’s a free pattern called Striped Cable Hat from Patons.

All this yarn was from stash passed on to me from two other people. These will go into my bag of charity hats for this winter. I managed to use 1114 grams of yarn and make 8 hats.

For my Q2 check-in: I used 760g of acrylic stash yarn for a total of 10 hats for the charity bag. I didn’t keep count of my mending pile, but I know I managed to reduce it some during that time period, all using stash items for the mends.

What a grand destash! The pattern is lovely and to donate to a charity is so thoughtful and kind!

Thanks so much. It’s a surprisingly quick knit, too, once you detect the errata and adjust accordingly.

The last loom I’m planning to sell is gone :tada: it was a little less than I wanted for it but I’m happy to not have to worry about selling it anymore.

That makes 5 looms of various types and sizes I’ve sold in 2024. It might actually be 6 but I can only recall 5 off the top of my head. Now I am left with the looms I enjoy weaving on and freed up a bunch of space. I still have some other stuff I’d like to sell but I think I’ll take a break for a bit.

I haven’t updated in a while, but I’ve used up some of my stash!

More crocheted mushrooms, given to my local library for their summer reading program:

Crocheted plants, given to the long term care unit at my local hospital for a plant sale fundraiser:

Used up a little bit of paper with ATCs, art, and cards:

Rainbow mandalas & a wall hanging:

Lots of amigurumi:

Used up my scrubby yarn making scrubbies:

Fixed up an old folding knitting bag, using yarn and fabric (I did have to buy buttons, but they were immediately used):

Used up a bunch of christmas fabric making bags (still need to get ribbon for the ties - I thought I had some, but of course I can’t find it ):

I was given some fabric, but I also gave some away.
Then someone donated a bunch of yarn to my local yarn group and most of it was sent home with me, lol:

I’m going to try to make a blanket out of it. I’m not sure if I can use the whites and off-whites together, but I’m still looking at patterns.

I bet the whites and off whites would make a great blanket. Kind of a “tonal” variegation.

I agree. You could do a variety of blocks in all the neutrals and arrange them attractively. Something like this from the Annies Catalog page:
