2025 DeStash-Along

those look so good!

Lovely!

Not sure if I’m adding to the stash or de-stashing, but kits sometimes come with a lot more floss than you need. When they do I usually keep the thread cards so I can salvage those for other projects.

Today I came across a bunch of cards and as they are leftovers from DMC kits, they come with all the thread numbers. I decided to pull out my embroidery floss bobbins and wind them on bobbins. I think I’m much more likely to actually use the floss when they’re with my “regular” stash. The leftovers on this card are common colours, like black and red, so I’m sure I already have bobbins for those colour numbers. I’m not fanatical about colour numbers - I do write them on the bobbins when I know them, but I’ve got a seperate ‘non-numbered’ stash. I care more about the brand than the exact colour number, these days I stay away from unknown brands that might not be colourfast.

consolidating and streamlining stash is a noble undertaking

I have not done anything this month. I’ve been so wiped out from the kid’s eye surgery adventure overlapping with my mother’s surgery and sepsis and recovery rollercoaster adventure while doing holidays for a 6 year old (so, no shirking there!). I have projects in queue- a felted bag pattern, a circular sweater pattern, lots of little kits and things- but whenever I get some alone/down time I just crash. I have been going to sleep right after the kid does (and sometimes before, while “sleep-reading” the bedtime story lol) and that has cut out my real daily “alone” time. I am hoping a January of pseudo-rest will enliven a February of back-on-tracks.

@AntBee It sounds like you’ve used up every bit of stashed time and energy and need to start building again when you’re able!

I made 16 valentines with mostly stash. Only purchase was some polymer cane sliver things for putting into them, shaker cards. I’ve started one last valentine, also all stash. YEY!

Got the greens and yellows done. On to purples and pinks, I am saving black and white as a treat at the end. 43 to date.

Pinks and purples…very satisfying. One more day with black and white and I will deliver on Sat. My back is protesting, for some reason sewing gets me just under the shoulder blade on tje left side. I’ve adjusted heights and changed chairs, but nothing helps. Ill take a break this weekend.

So nice! Especially the pink and purple ones, my favourite colours :purple_heart:

Maybe some targeted stretching before and after would help?

The quilt squares are lovely. The pinks and purples remind me, in the best possible way, of 80s/90s Barbie.

Joining you all here now that I am unpacking my art studio and craft stash. (I have an art studio in the back of our bike shop in it’s new building. Been moving in and unpacking for the last two weeks.) My husband walked through, as my studio is also the thoroughfare to my office and a bathroom, and made commentary about the amount of stuff I had…. Hm. Well, he wasn’t WRONG exactly.

I finished a 2024 WIP here: Wrap Skirt and Sweater Outfit
I bought the yarn in 2016 and had to turn that into a cropped sweater because I ran out of yarn and it’s now discontinued. I have more in another color but it’s also one ball less so no clue how I will use that up. The skirt fabric was a thrift store find that I probably had even longer than that.

Now working up the same sweater pattern with Hempathy yarn I bought in 2020. I think I have enough for a full length sweater this time…

I have too much fabric and too many clothes saved for upcycling and repurposing. And a bunch of weird art and scrapbook papers I should use up….

Your quilt squares are fantastic! I’m so impressed at how much beauty you’ve produced from scraps!

A week or two ago I cut two zipper pouches from garment fabric scraps and I finally sewed them together tonight. I will use these for little things in my work bag and locker.

Zippers are from stash too. I used up odd shaped scraps so that’s why they’re a little bit wonky. But they’re perfect for what they need to do.

Finished another stash yarn basket. These are rather addictive.

January theme projects:

I finished my Fairy Bread Sophie Shawl. It’s a beast and too large for my blocking mats. It is currently blocking haphazardly.

Since I finished some projects, I tidied my craft room.
The ladder for my blankets will eventually go next to my bookshelf. I just need to move the bookshelf over, which means removing the books.
I’m due for a bookshelf reorganise anyway.

The shawl looks so squishy and cute, and your space looks lovely and inviting!

January 31: Yay! I completed a 2024 WIP. This was supposed to be for the December 2024 De-stash prompt “shiny”. I used a regular cranberry colored acrylic yarn knit along with a sparkly Mylar-type of strand. Was very frustrating because the Mylar stranded stuff kept trying to twist and tangle. The sparkle does not show up well in my photos, but is more visible in person. I used a total 1205.5 yard of yarn.

This pattern is the Simple Style Hat by Laura Bain with a pompon added. Unfortunately, the pattern is discontinued on yarnspirations.com, but if anyone wants it I can scan my hard copy and DM to you.
