50 Projects or Bust! 2025

I didn’t want to add to your stash but hey, I figured with Halloween and Christmas coming up, maybe small projects could be done without a lot of stress!

I will confess that I also got myself that fat quarter bundle of floral fabrics…a slightly different colorway, but it was just too pretty to pass up!

Hang in there @megwell … I have your prizes all wrapped up and ready to go but it is all the other stuff I have been collecting for your junk journals and art that is overwhelming me…maybe I just need to do two packages…hmmm

I know I haven’t called numbers out in a while…I will tomorrow…How is everyone doing with reaching your personal goal for the number of projects you want to do in 2025? I am nearly at 100…but then, I am also retired, so this is my job…ha ha.

By my calculations I’m at 42 projects for the year. I may actually make it to 50 this year! Of course, most aren’t documented anywhere but as a list in my planner, but it’s the thought that counts, maybe?

ETA: Correction! I might be up to 45 projects. How did that happen?

I think I’m at 67ish? I really should keep a list. That said, my wip list is still dauntingly long. So much so that I’ve sat out a few swaps. I’ll make a new bingo card for this last quarter of the year with the ones I really need to finish and post that.

I am at 104!

BUT, I have been very negligent in getting my WIPs done and also staying on top of the BINGO calls.

Learning from the BINGO that @audiobooklover runs successfully in the Quiltalong, I think we need to make our WIP projects more generalized and not so specific.

Here is an example:

Instead of calling W-5, I would call out “WIP older than 2 weeks”. You can then use whatever project you need to put in there. I’ll ask audio to help make the cards and then link you guys to them Give me a few days. Poor Megwell is still waiting for her prize…I am just going to send it and plan on sending all the other stuff later. Bad me!

No worries, Linda! I (and I suspect many others) appreciate all you do to keep us motivated. :purple_heart:

I should have two bigger projects to add this week! One is from my Holdover List in the Priorities section, even. YEY! I’m in the 70s somewhere for the year. I usually top out a little over 100, but as suspected this year, I’ll likely have fewer. There were some big’uns this year! And we got a puppy last November. No matter how much I thought I knew that a pup needs more attention (time) than a senior dog, I still have not gotten used to adjusting my time estimates for working on things.

I am learning from my many retired friends that it is important to have hobbies and things you love to do BEFORE you retire. Somehow, starting a crafting hobby or sports hobby after you retire doesn’t seem to have staying power.

So, for me, this is not about how many project we make, it is about staying engaged with community, learning new skills, getting inspired to get out and do things, and of course, make what we enjoy for ourselves and others.

Most of my friends are getting bored while I have just gotten started with everything I want to do!

Again, balance is key…take care of life things, yourself, and have fun!

Very good points. I amlo don’t really have goals in the number of projects I complete, I just like to keep track of them. I find it interesting to compare “stats” between years. Well, “stat,” singular, because I only take note of each project as one completed, nothing else about them, really.

I have often marveled that people get bored when they retire and have assumed that was mostly about not having much in the way of interests/activities outside of working. It hadn’t occured to me that it might be difficult to take up a new thing, but that sounds so right. In the last few years, I have decided to focus on learning by getting better at and going deeper into the crafts I already do rather than adding new ones. Mostly this is about trying to limit the number of stashes! JoAnn closing to going to help me be even more diligent about diminishing the size of my stashes.

I can see certain periods of my life by what and when I make things. I see the months when I am overwhelmed with life, either making nothing or making a ton of small, easy projects. It is a timeline of my life.

Good idea to limit your time and energy also. I find that so many things I was interested in when we first started on the crafting sites years ago have gone by the wayside. I have edited my stash so much. I do a lot more things sitting down and relaxing with no planned end. It gets done because I am calm and enjoying the process.

Yeah, Joann’s closing has stopped my impulse buys of fabric.

I learned a few months ago that part of helping prevent dementia is learning new things, specifically. Doing word puzzles and the like is recalling old things, so not as helpful. I am hoping that learning new techniques and how to use new tools or old tools in new ways counts.

Hoo boy! Yesterday, I hit project #79 which was also on my holdover list of priorities: my outdoor dining table. It and the bookcase were on that list and the biggest, hardest things and it felt so good to strike-though them on my post! Not sure what other holdovers I’ll get done this year what with holiday making coming on, but I feel super accomplished for knocking these two off the list.

I totally lost track of the number of projects I did so far. And I’m way behind with posting my crafts. I need to get an overview one of these days. I might even have a WIPGO once I’ve posted everything

I made a fancy checklist for my WiP/to-craft list and printed it out. Then remembered 3 more things I should have added :joy:.

Listing them has not helped. I sort of feel paralyzed with too many choices. Maybe it’s time for some dice. Or crafty tarot.

I finished two projects on my to-craft list this weekend. Five bajillion to go.

I keep making everything NOT on my list! I even created a Pinterest board for 3rd quarter projects to make and I still go off list! Maybe we both have an allergy to lists? ha ha

I am now at project 105, so it’s not like I am not making stuff…just not finishing old stuff and making new stuff. I love your list idea, so I’ll give one more shot before the end of the year.

Different contest than WIPGO until I can straighten it out:

List 3 WIPS you want to complete before DEC 1. Finish those 3 WIPS and win a prize!!!

Simple enough? The prize will be a gift card to your favorite online store since I am rubbish at sending out physical packages!

I appreciate the extra kick in the pants to get through some more of my to-craft list! And in that spirit, I’ve chosen a mix of relatively easy and longer pieces:

  1. Fall leaf watercolor (it’d be nice to finish before the season is actually over).
  2. Dragon kindle bag for my mom.
  3. My daughter’s 2024 Ornament (so embarrassing that it’s almost time to put the tree up and I still haven’t even started last year’s ornament).

Also, if you’d like the Canva template for my to-craft list, I’m happy to share!

Thanks! I like hand writing out my lists. Somehow my brain remembers it better with the muscle memory thing.

Here are my three to keep me accountable. Of course, none of these are on my list at the beginning of this thread!

1.Christmas felt dolls
2.Crochet pocket shawl
3.Macrame hangers for plants (6 total)

My 3 priorities.

  1. Husband’s socks
  2. Countdown calendar
  3. 12 days of Christmas something-or-other

I won’t lie, I am tempted to make the socks 2 of the three- second sock syndrome is real! Haha

The problem is, I’m a one project at a time kind of crafter, other than some doll dresses that need bodices. I have a baby quilt in progress but that’s not going to be finished before December 1st. So this is a pretty eclectic mix

  1. Bind a Book
  2. Hem Pants
  3. Travel Knitting Project

I should have clarified…it can be WIPS or new projects. You just need to finish three by Dec 1!

Feel free to change your list if you want to put in something else.
