50 Projects or Bust! 2025

I finished my cocktail dress and my daughter‘s loft bed area. Couldn’t take pictures of her room, yet because it’s a mess.

My winter dress needs hemming and cuffs, and I don’t think I’m able to finish it this week

That is awesome! I have extended the deadline to Dec. 15th!

Thank you! There was no way I’m going to finish my three by 12/1. I have one done, can probably finish another this weekend, but the third requires some time.

No worries! This is supposed to be fun for everyone, not deadline stressed!

At the end of November I am at 123 projects! I got some large ones done, but mostly medium and smalls. I got Halloween projects done and even some Christmas ones! I don’t feel so overwhelmed because I feel like I am learning to make lists better. They are helping me focus more. In the past, I would put things on my list that actually felt like chores, not fun crafting projects. I am trying to keep that list separate.

I’ve come to realize that I often go off list because I find new supplies or spend a lot of time on Pinterest. I’ve narrowed down Pinterest to actual inspirations only and things I want to make. You know, when you have a board with hundreds of pouches, it is hard to start making anything! I now move it to a goal board and just use the others as future inspiration. I can focus on the one pouch.

Anyone else have tips on how to get stuff done on a list?
What are your distractions?
Is it easier to use your list when you are bored or sort of down or does a list make you feel negative in any way?
Do you like long or short lists? Do you make lists for your lists? ha–I know I have so many lists and some are repeats because I can’t find all of my scrap paper lists!

I will say that I have been successful at keeping up with the Nerds Games thanks to the awesome checklist by @Tapestry ! I think a check list that is fun might be a solution for me!

I have decided to cancel the “count down” calendar project. Last year Kidlet excitedly and independently bought herself a large (over 2’ tall) nutcracker countdown figurine that she loves. It has the cubes with numbers on it and you rotate them to keep count. I don’t want to dilute the joy of that by making another item that does the same thing. Second to that my mom was so happy to buy her one of the candy count down advent calendars so I will step back and let that be a tradition they both enjoy.

I am still planning on doing a little pocket bunting of some kind for the 12 days of Christmas, though, so I should be getting a move on for that pronto.

As to your “lists” quandary, I use them as a place to order my thinking. I keep a daily to do list so I don’t fritter a whole day away and forget to do things, I keep a “want to do” craft list where I think about what crafts seem fun and good for someone’s birthday or whatever. I then pretty much ignore that list and make whatever catches my attention haha

I hit 100 last week and then added two more. I have a few things on my list to do over before Christmas as well. I was not expecting to hit 100 this year, because of the two large woodworking projects, but here I am.

I’m a big list maker and the lists don’t feel negative to me, even when there are line items that don’t get crossed off. I use a note app on my phone for lists for each day of the week, things to keep my eyes out for at thrift stores, measurements of things, ideas for all the people I give gifts to, things go pack for trips, etc.

My own Pinterest is HUGE and that is what works for me. I do cull every so often and I also make use of sections within pin boards. I almost never am pinning something that I want to make exactly - almost all my pins have just a thing or two that inspire; like a color, placement, a material or tool, pattern.

It is difficult to make things exactly, I think. To me, seeing stuff just gets the creative wheels turning. I do like pinning useful things like certain embroidery techniques or knitting shortcuts, etc. I made a board for things I want to try in each quarter. If I don’t get them done, I leave them or move them back to their boards, like Halloween, etc.

I have tried more modern list making and just seem to gravitate back to the good old fashioned memo book. Or books, in my case!

Congrats on reaching 100! Your wood working projects definitely were epic, so fitting in other projects is quite an accomplishment!

Yes, I agree. And usually I’m not even interested in making exactly or even mostly like a pin. This is why “Make you pins” type challenges and -alongs aren’t made for me and my use of Pinterest.

I still use paper lists, but I can count on my phone being with me when I want to add or check the lists.

I like those “alongs” because I often forget why I pinned certain things. It reminds me that something caught my eye so instead of just admiring it, I like making something similar. I see so many ideas for scrap use that helps me justify my beloved hobby of collecting scraps.

I can see, though, how pinning itself can be such a time eater, so I just do a quick perusal daily and clean up duplicates and ideas that I am no longer interested in every once in a while. What sucks me in most are the knitting tutorials. I have been knitting forever and I still find better ways to do certain steps and new stitches I want to try.

I am sure you will be adding a few more projects and will have a nice list ready for 2026!

Now that I can see the light at the end of the 2025 Tunnel, I am surprise that I hit 107 projects this year. With the giant bookcase and the patio table projects along with having a puppy, I didn’t think I’d reach 100. I have one more that I’d really like to get done this year. I’ve gathered the supplies (mostly) and hope to get started making-making this afternoon.

2026: With the bedroom that was my craft space becoming the library and TheMisterT’s WFH office, we’re in the midst of a rather big reconfiguration/redesign/redecorate phase that is going to take some months to really get done. There will be lots of DIY and craft projects as part of this, as well as some other household DIY/craft projects already planned and even purchased for already. Perhaps next year is the one where the fewer, bigger projects prediction comes to fruition. :crystal_ball:

2025 was a huge year for us with all of the house renovations. I am so tired of seeing contractors and trades people! They were great, but, it is nice to have the time and quiet back!

We still have projects that can’t be completed until spring, but nothing like 2025! 2024 was the big move back to PA, my husband’s surgeries, and renos. 2025 was mostly renos and some health things. Here is to 2026 being a “normal” year!

On that note, I will probably set up the 2026 50 Projects this weekend so people can start planning and posting for 2026!

I finally finished my third project at 4am this morning. Far past the deadline, but in time to go under the tree so I’m calling it a win!

I haven’t done a final project count for the year, but I’m hoping to fit in at least 1-2 more pieces before new years. Maybe from my to-craft list. Maybe not :joy:.

I am still debating whether I can push through and finish my pocket shawl before the end of the year. I would like to actually be able to wear it this winter!

@tapestry…hey it is a win! Deadline be damned! You did your list! Let me know which digital gift card you would like and your email! I want winners!

Thanks for creating the spaces for this chat year after year! I’m already building my 2026 list- my MIL gave me yarn for Christmas so that’ll need (over)thinking to find a project for lol
