I fell in love with some of @Dfabbric’s recent creations and begged her to do a private swap. She graciously agreed and asked for a painting of her fur baby and her partner’s fur baby.
The day before she asked, I’d been whining to a friend that I just can’t paint dogs. It’s not my thing and I’m not good at it. I can paint foxes. I can paint squirrels. I can paint amphibians and cats. But dogs are my Achilles heel in the animal kingdom. I’ve tried acrylic. I’ve tried gouache (one of my fave mediums!). They were ok and their recipients loved them. But I did not.
But how could I say no? So, with a lot of reservations, and some procrastinating, I dove in. This time, I chose watercolor. My first love. Annnnnnd I’m pretty sure I’ll only be painting dogs in watercolor for awhile.
I am so grateful I got to paint them. I love both pieces and they make my heart sing. I hear Diane likes them as well which is the most important thing.
Process pics:
I only got 1 of Bosco but managed several for Wick.
Initial version. I added some blues and yellows plus deepened the blacks to add more contrast after this pic.
I’d say you’ve successfully conquered that, these are amazing! I just love Bosco so much I’m not a dog person but I would totally put that on my wall. I bet @Dfabbric loved them!!

Wow! You really captured the character of the two pups! I’m jealous of your watercolor skills. You really know your stuff! I’m glad you met your own expectations! I know how annoying it is to not get something the way you want it and how freaking exciting it is when you exceed your expectations!
