Accidental landscape - scrappy fabric bucket

Made for my sweet friend @Edel for the recent colour box swap, her faves are green, blue, purple.

I picked out a bunch of fabric bits I liked and just placed them on batting, stretching & curving them into place under the sewing machine needle.

When done it was surprisingly landscapey!

I like how these wee mermaids inside are swimming round in a vortex.

The base is a stabilizing circle made with a pattern Edel posted, it’s in her least favourite, my most favourite - batik.

The lining fabric of swirling mermaids is mesmerizing! I love that a piece of “you” that your friend might not like (the batik) is there but not in her face…so much like real friendship, right? We take the good, bad and ugly…(although I think EVERYTHING about this bucket is GOOD!).

Well done and from @Edel 's post, it was the perfect thing to send! She loves it (and you!)

The heart is such a special addition!

I received a basket from @Whistlefish a few years ago with a very special note, I tucked that under the removable base and any time I read it, I feel warm. @Edel will get the same feeling from this.

Absolutely stunning! The mermaids are so much fun, but the outside is a work of art. The landscape is beautiful. I love the hidden heart.

This is beautiful! It’s scrappy, but cohesive. You did a great job with all the color combos and that accidental landscape…absolutely lovely! I really like how you quilted the fabric to follow the curves of the strips.

Are the strips appliquéd on?

I’m not very techniquey so not sure. I just held the fabric & sewed it down.
