Christmas Craftalong

I totally get it! I just decided to sew in the chaos today…blanked the boxes and unpacked things clear out of my mind, made some room, and did some utilitarian sewing (hemming curtains!)…I know the chaos is still there, but I can’t get to it all…everything is a victory, even putting away a bar of soap I found among my swap goodies!

Hang in there! It will come together!

I finished these!

They turned out fabulous! I really want to try colorwork but now I am worried to do the pattern if it is not suited for a beginner.

I just put away my tree  always a bit of a sad moment. It’s good to be able to properly clean the living room again but I’ll miss the lights.

I keep a string of little fairy lights in the livingroom year round. So cozy. Maybe you’d like that? Or in the craft room, perhaps, if it doesn’t quite suit the decor.

I use lots of flameless flickering candles and fairy lights all year round. I like that sort of lighting. I am not a bright light person so all my main lights are also on dimmers. Somehow, it makes me feel like I am in a fairy tale, I guess.

I have a permanent string of dangly lights above my livingroom window. In the winter it really helps to cheer up the room.

Mr Imma has already claimed the LED reindeer decoration for his room! While putting away the Christmas boxes, I found some mushroom-shaped fairy lights and I’ve held those back, those might be nice for a seasonal or year round display or my craft room. I don’t recognize them, I’m pretty sure they’re not mine, but we inherited some Christmas decor. We gave a lot of it away but I think I liked this one enough to keep, and forgot about them… We also have candles year round. Our house is pretty dark so those 300 fairy lights on the tree really help.

I want to do more seasonal decor, because I feel like it really improves my mood, so aside from Christmas I’m also going to focus on Easter and Halloween more.

What brand of flickering candle do you like? I’m in the market for realistic ones. We’re adopting 2 kittens next week so real flames are out but I like the ambiance,

I need to get some fairy lights, any recommendations?

I have this wax warmer which I love

The picture is blowing out the color for some reason, it’s much warmer color in real life.

It would be so nice with more seasonal decor. The only thing I do at the moment is Christmas. But some Halloween and something in the spring would be nice too.
I think its easier to decorate in the autumn/winter, because we get pretty dark here in Sweden during that time. But spring and summer is more light, so you dont get the same cozyness from fairy lights and other cozy lights.

I hope you take photos of your decoration @Immaculata whichever season you are decorating!

There is an Easter Craftalong and a Halloween Craftalong Halloween - to - Easter is basically the period in the NL when the weather is gloomy. Well, in a bad year like 2024, it’s bad weather all year long, but normally you can see some sun in summer!

It’s of course a lot less dark in the NL than it is in Sweden (I’ve visited Sweden and studied in Finland) but what I like about the nordic countries is that it can get cold or snowy, but it feels less grey and gloomy. We mostly get a lot of rain and fog and occasionally icy roads, lots of wind and rain which means you feel colder than it actually is. We used to have more real winter, now we just seem to have 9 months of autumn and a few months of heat. In December it was just so cloudy and foggy I didn’t see the sun for weeks. But I’ve not spent that much time in the nordic countries, maybe I was lucky and always had really nice weather, even if the days are a bit short.

Yeah, the snow does WONDER for the mood. Everything seems a bit brighter. But I can say our winters are not what they used to be. Today we have +6 degrees C here. Its crazy! Everything is melting. Spring isnt suppose to come until later march!

I have seen photos, and it does looks cozy with the rain and fog, like its not that cold and you can easily go on a hike. I think you were lucky, and Im glad you were, so you got good memories of the nordics!

I will take a look at those craftalongs! Halloween sure sounds fun, and maybe Easter is just a great! Thanks for the tip!

I’ve had good luck ordering strand lights directly from aliexpress (it’s the exact same products on Amazon but for less). The wee lights that look like a tiny grain LED in a blob of hot glue on strands of wire. They come in every length & variety, rbg, multiple settings for static/flash/twinkle, remote control, usb or plug.

Since @AcadianDriftwood hasn’t been around in a while, I’m hoping @Abbeeroad will run another round of the February Thing A Day craft along next month, I love that one.

Yes! I am planning to run it again unless someone else wants a turn at the helm. :slightly_smiling_face:

I wish we could go on hikes! But it’s so wet here in winters you are often ankle-deep in the mud. The areas of nature close to my house are often closed off for months during winter and spring because of flooding. We went on a bike ride there between Christmas and NYE and we were barely able to get through the mud on our bikes. Of course we do go out for walks in the city, when it’s not icy outside.
