CLOSED: Harry Potter Craftalong - Yule 2021/22

“I have time” I thought to myself a week or so ago… Then realised while brushing my teeth now that I do NOT have time :stuck_out_tongue:

Class or Challenge Title: Advanced Studies
House: Slytherin
Project Name & Page Link: Monogrammed Christmas Stockings
Brief Description: I finished my first ever AS and I couldn’t be more happy. The stockings might not be as big as I wanted them but I’m really REALLY pleased with so many other things. 5 stockings which took WAY more time than needed, but which I’m really proud of.

Class or Challenge Title: Transfiguration
House: Slytherin
Project Name & Page Link: Demon fruit birthday cake
Brief Description: My step son is a lucky boy, and I guess I’m also lucky because now I have one more that enjoys my crafting. Demon fruit comes from One Piece. I guess my fruit won’t give anyone any special powers besides energy :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s time for the end of term project dump.

Class or Challenge Title: Alchemy
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name & Page Link: WWDitS Witch Skin Hat
Brief Description: This Halloween my husband and I dressed up as Laszlo and Nadja from the TV show What We Do in the Shadows. In addition to the clothing I made for my husband he requested the “witch skin” hat from the show. I used a pattern by Fancy Jen Cosplay for the EVA foam base, then sculpted the skin patches with foam clay and the back end of a pair of tweezers. After everything was dry, I sealed the hat with plastidip, gave it several coats of paint and washes, and finally added the feather accents.

Class or Challenge Title: Apparition
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name & Page Link: Nadja Costume Top
Brief Description: For the top of my Nadja costume I knew I would need a pattern, as I have no experience sewing historical garments. After some searching I was able to find an Edwardian style vest pattern. I added sleeves from Truly Victorian for a mid 1890’s look.
Project Picture:

Class or Challenge Title: Charms
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name & Page Link: Fur Cape-let
Brief Description: To go with my costume I decided to add a faux fur cape-let. I used another Truly Victorian pattern. And while I made this to go with a costume I feel like I would wear this anytime in the fall or winter if I were to go to an even nice enough that I wouldn’t want to wear a down jacket.
Project Picture:

Class or Challenge Title: DADA
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name & Page Link: Nadja Doll Outfit
Brief Description: Just as I made the hat to accompany my husband’s costume, I decided I wanted to create a Nadja Doll (from the second season of the show) to carry with me. I purchased an 18" doll from Amazon and found a pattern for a dress and jacket that could make as a miniature version of my costume.
Project Picture:

Class or Challenge Title: Hagrid’s Christmas - Tinsel
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name & Page Link: Nadja Skirt
Brief Description: The brocade I used to create this Edwardian Walking Skirt contained a coppery metallic thread that glistened and sparkled like tinsel in the right light.
Project Picture:

Class or Challenge Title: HOM
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name & Page Link: Is it a blouse? No, it’s a dicky.
Brief Description: I wanted my costume top to have a high standing collar. I had tossed around the idea of making a shirtwaist, but instead elected to add the sleeves into the vest. This meant I needed to make a blouse. I wanted it to be the same velvet as the sleeves, but was worried about bulk and heat. So I settled on a Dickey. When everything is all worn together you cannot tell its not a vest over a shirtwaist.

Class or Challenge Title: SOAR
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name & Page Link: Oyster Shell Santa
Brief Description: This year my friend and her daughters combed the beach for washed up oyster shells, too reuse in some craft projects. She invited me over to make oyster Santa’s with them. Of course I couldn’t just make a normal Santa
Project Picture:

Class or Challenge Title: Transfiguration
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name & Page Link: Miniature Painting
Brief Description: I painted this miniature for one of the players in my Dungeons and Dragons game. Mini painting is something that required a lot of patience and time to complete. All in this one took me about 6 hours in total.
Project Picture:

Since so many of my projects were for costumes here is a picture of us dressed up at Halloween.

January hasn’t been the best craft-month overall, but let’s see what we can slip in before the end-of-term.

Prompt: CoMC
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Beginning of the Year Set-Up
Brief Description: 2021 was a flaming pile of poo as far as my personal life. I don’t have any control over the things that made it so difficult, so I decided in 2022 I was going to concentrate extra hard on things that make me happy, like crafts, reading, and watching movies/TV. Since stickers, paper, and glue are another thing that make me happy I decided I would start a journal of some kind to document things. The spreads at the beginning of the book are for year-long tracking.

Prompt: Charms
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Crayola Supertips Swatch
Brief Description: I’m a little ashamed at how long this took (apparently I can’t count to 100 and have lost most of my coloring skills since I last used them in 4th grade) but I managed to create a swatch sheet for my new box of 100 crayola supertips and label the markers themselves.

Prompt: Detention - Stash
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Pink Tumbling Blocks
Brief Description: I am always super excited when I use the last little bit of a fabric scrap and can resign the remainders to the crumb pile.

Prompt: Detention - WIP
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Mom’s Scarf
Brief Description: My mom started this scarf some time in 2019 or early 2020. Since then she developed a really fast moving form of Parkinsons and can no longer do fine motorskills, so I finished up the last stripe for her. We ran out red yarn, so cast off in the variegated colorway, which I actually like.

Prompt: SoAR
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Valentine’s Dress
Brief Description: It’s hard to say what exactly counts as my “best supplies” but I absolutely love working with vintage fabric and I had been looking forward to the day this one would be seasonally appropriate from the very moment it was given to me by a neighbor back in July. The finished product turned out exactly like I had imagined it.

Prompt: Transfiguration
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: 2021 Review
Brief Description: I feel like this might be a cautionary tale not to start projects at 9pm. I started making a review of good things from 2021 for my journal, but made the mistake of starting late and working without my phone in a room that had no clock. Like a casino of crafting I looked up what I thought was about an hour later to discover it was after 2am.
