Ugh! Finally posting again!

Prompt/Challenge Title: Keeper
Project Name & Page Link: Cucumber melon soap
Team: Karasjok Kites (Norway) :blue_heart: :white_heart: :yellow_heart:
Brief Description:
I have a lot of soapmaking stash, but haven’t made cold process in ages. It was great to break it all out again!

Prompt/Challenge Title: Bludger
Project Name & Page Link: Howl’s Scene Painting
Team: Karasjok Kites (Norway) :blue_heart: :white_heart: :yellow_heart:
Brief Description:
I got a Gouache paint set months ago and have been meaning to try it, so I FINALLY did! I am NOT a painter by any means, but I’m having a lot of fun learning! This is my first gouachepainting, and I used a Howl’s Moving Castle scene as reference.

Prompt/Challenge Title: Snitch
Project Name & Page Link: Oatmeal and Honey Soap
Team: Karasjok Kites (Norway) :blue_heart: :white_heart: :yellow_heart:
Brief Description:
More CP soap. I was getting into the groove. CP soap does of course require gloves, and the swirled top retains the memory of touch.

Prompt/Challenge Title: Chaser
Project Name & Page Link: Paint Splash Photo Op
Team: Karasjok Kites (Norway) :blue_heart: :white_heart: :yellow_heart:
Brief Description: For Summer Reading, I made this paint splash photo op out of house insulation sheets, gesso and paint. The “cans” are recycled OSHA-type posters from work (we got updates) coverd with foil and construction paper and rolled with tulle taped inside. This has actually been a big hit at work.

Prompt/Challenge Title: Seeker
Project Name & Page Link: Crochet aquarium
Team: Karasjok Kites (Norway) :blue_heart: :white_heart: :yellow_heart:
Brief Description: Not the best pic, but you can get the gist. My workmate saw some amazing crochet aquarium ideas (I’d never heard of this before!) so when our bearded dragon, Norbert, retired due to stress, I made 1/2 of it into a crochet aquarium. (I submitted the jellies and a coral last term.) Now it’s rounded out with a seahorse, a yellow tang, a crab, some shrimp, a starfish, some more crocheted corals and some foam corals. Oh yeah, and some serpent stars.

Prompt/Challenge Title: Goal Hoops
Project Name & Page Link: Bigge Arte Supplies
Team: Karasjok Kites (Norway) :blue_heart: :white_heart: :yellow_heart:
Brief Description: 3 Bigge props for the library entrance for Summer Reading.

Project Name & Page Link: Paint Cans

**Prompt/Challenge Title:**Deathday Party in the Dungeons
Project Name & Page Link: Rosewater Lemonade Soap
Team: Karasjok Kites (Norway) :blue_heart: :white_heart: :yellow_heart:
Brief Description:
This is for use in the bathroom!

Prompt/Challenge Title: Housecraft Challenge Scraps/Stash
Project Name & Page Link: Lumpy Soap
Team: Karasjok Kites (Norway) :blue_heart: :white_heart: :yellow_heart:
Brief Description:
This was my first foray back into the world of CP soap, using plenty of stash oils and fragrance. It traced SUPER FAST and I was not prepared for how fast it would be, so this one had to go into the mould in PLOPS, lol! It still smells great and works fine, but I definitely got back into the groove with the other soaps.

PS THE EVIL EYE IS WORKING!!! :tada: :open_mouth: :tada:

Prompt/Challenge Title: Seeker
Project Name & Page Link: Speckled Edges
Team: Moutohora Macaws
Brief Description: This project was for a swap in a bookbinding group I belong to. It was the perfect excuse to finally use the hand-marbled paper I’ve been hoarding since about 2010.

Prompt/Challenge Title: Bludger
Project Name & Page Link: Speckled Edges
Team: Moutohora Macaws
Brief Description: One of the things on my to-do list for the summer was trying a new technique as part of a larger bookbinding project - spattering the edges with fountain pen ink. It worked pretty well, things were clamped tight enough that nothing soaked through to the pages themselves and the colors matched the endpapers well enough to get by.

Prompt/Challenge Title: Beater Bats
Project Name & Page Link: Amanita Make Some Earrings To Go With This Shirt
Team: Karasjok Kites (Norway) :blue_heart: :white_heart: :yellow_heart:
Brief Description:
I got this shirt from MorningWitch when they were having a sale, and I LOOOOVE it!!! Everything on there is POISON. :open_mouth:  I had a pack of mini wooden mushrooms in my stash, so I painted 2, drilled holes in the top and screwed/glued in some screw eyes. I had to cannibalize another set of earrings for the hooks, but they came out just as I’d envisioned!

Blythe is modeling them as I’m camera shy lol.

Team: Karasjok Kites (Norway) :blue_heart: :white_heart: :yellow_heart:

Prompt/Challenge Title: Broom
Project Name & Page Link: An Hour Better
Team: Moutohora Macaws
Brief Description: I spent about an hour on my craft room. Most of that effort went into moving furniture, retrieving cat toys, and sweeping/vacuuming the floor but it’s still an overall improvement

Having to fight my perfectionist instincts here…I have been crafting and in some cases even remembering to take pics this summer, but not posting. My brain insists I have to get a full project dump and cover everything or else it’s not worth doing. Going to see where I can get to today - I really want to post for the Proudsticks so we have a full tourney!

Prompt/Challenge Title: Keeper
Project Name & Page Link: Stash dress
Team: Patonga Proudsticks
Brief Description: This dress was specifically made entirely from stash to test a pattern to see if I wanted to make it in my good linen. (I don’t- I should know that I never like cut-on sleeves!) But it busted all the main fabric and I’ve already worn it to work.

Prompt/Challenge Title: Beater
Project Name & Page Link: Denim Kindle cover
Team: Patonga Proudsticks
Brief Description: I’ve had this old jean leg denim allocated for a Kindle cover for ages. It ended up being a little big but serves the purpose I needed it to (keeping it from getting completely smashed in my backpack)

Prompt/Challenge Title: Seeker
Project Name & Page Link: First bound book
Team: Patonga Proudsticks
Brief Description: I’ve seen so many amazing art journals/bound books on the site (and received several in swaps), but have always wanted to try my own. The spine is definitely too wide, but pretty happy with it for a first attempt.

S.P.E.W. : Furry Friends

Prompt/Challenge Title: Molly’s Housecraft Challenges: Scrap (or stash) Busting
Project Name & Page Link: Post-op Doggy Tees
Team: Karasjok Kites
Brief Description: From the depths of my stash (okay, that’s a little dramatic, they haven’t been there that long), I pulled some novelty cotton jersey knits to make some tees for the doggo. His doc told me he could avoid the dreaded cone of shame after his procedure if he could wear a t-shirt over his incisions. So, I spent that day’s nervous energy sewing tees for him.

Prompt/Challenge Title: Broom
Project Name & Page Link: Organized Quilt Fabric
Team: Moose Jaw Meteorites
Brief Description:
When we moved into this house in March of 2023, my studio was on the bottom of the list of things to set up. By June, things were livable enough that we could set up my desks, cutting table, and this big shelving unit (which originally lived in a closet). I got my machines on tables, and unpacked my fabric stash, directly onto these shelves, with some in large milk crates full of other random things. Thanks to the Quiltalong inspiring us to share our stashes (and the resultant shame of how all the fabric was falling over into a blob), I decided it was finally time to put some effort and funds into organization. The quilting stash is by color in the upper left boxes, with bundles/kits and flannel in the bottom left, rogue quilt blocks, linen, canvas, and misc fabric upper right, and quilt backings lower right. Then I organized fat quarters in the smaller stacking bins on the upper far right, and Charm, Mini Charms, Jelly Roll Strips, 5" strips, and binding scraps in the lower right. It feels sooooo nice to have done this for myself!

Prompt/Challenge Title: Goal Hoops
Project Name & Page Link: Cheering Up My Grey Kitchen
Team: Moose Jaw Meteorites
Brief Description:
This is a bunch of small projects that I’m lumping together as one… Backstory: I hate my grey kitchen. Not the kitchen itself, which is a great size, and really well laid out. I hate that the previous owners painted the walls a light cinder block grey, and the solid oak cabinets white-grey, and blue-grey. (Especially as the floors are a warm cream & blue, which just clashes.) It doesn’t help that they didn’t sand or prime the cabinets and the paint is coming off. We want to have them professionally resurfaced in a few years, but it’s a ways off. (Gotta replace the garage door, fix the unsafe deck, etc.) While organizing my fabrics I rediscovered the beautiful “placemats” that marionberries made for me in a scrappy swap. I didn’t have the heart to serve food on these beautiful works of art, so I decided to hang them as wall quilts. I used upholstery tacks, and just pushed through at the corners. The black binding she used matches the black framed family art around the room.

And that prompted me to find the beautiful Christmas card Abbeeroad made, that I had intended to frame. I found a brand new frame at Goodwill, but the card wasn’t a standard size, and so the image was both too small, and too large for the mat that came with it. No problem! I’ll make one. I used scraps of black fabric, and the decorative heart stitch on my sewing machine, and stitched the fabric on top of the card, all the way around, then framed it. I had finally realized that our bread box might have been perfect for a family of 2, but now as a family of 3 (with in-laws who visit often), it wasn’t cutting it. So I bought a new one on Amazon, which I assembled myself. Unfortunately the bottom panel was clear (not ridged/frosted like the top panel). So I used some faux stained glass film to add a bit of whimsy to that, then artfully arranged a favorite candle (don’t worry, I won’t burn it there!) and a handmade ceramic bowl. Now I have a more cheerful corner.

Part of my frustration has also been clutter on my counter, of crap that isn’t cooking related. A box of tissues, baby wipes we use to clean up the kiddo after eating, the dog’s joint supplements, etc. And this lovely little calendar that someone gave Ada last year. We update it every day, but the box of extra days/months/seasons/holidays was just sitting there, taking up space, and needing to be moved all the time to wipe down surfaces. So let’s get it out of there! I use Command strips to hang it up, then found a vintage basket for some of the extra pieces. (I put the ones that are less often used in a nearby drawer.) And I used the old breadbox to store the unsightly doggie joint chews, baby wipes, etc. I even added a candle warming lamp for some good vibes.

And I used the old breadbox to store the unsightly doggie joint chews, baby wipes, etc. I even added a candle warming lamp for some good vibes. This may seem small and silly, but it has honestly improved my mental health every time I walk into the kitchen. I feel calmer and less stressed with things organized and put away. My kitchen might never be HGTV worthy, but it is full of favorite LC created art and hopefully a bit more whimsy.

Everyone’s made wonderful things! It feels like I didn’t finish anything this summer, but when I look through my pictures, I have a few projects.

(I did start several projects and worked on some larger WIPs, but haven’t managed to finish any of them yet )

Prompt/Challenge Title: Bludger
Project Name: Flower Bookmarks
Team: Moose Jaw Meteorites
Brief Description: The children’s librarian at my local library asked the yarnworkers group if we would be interested in making bookmarks for summer reading. It sounded like a fun project, so I added it to my to do list & finally the week before summer reading started, I made some flower bookmarks! (pattern (ravelry link), but for round 2, I did (ch 2, slst) instead of (ch1, sc) and (slst, ch 2) instead of (sc, ch 1) & did braided tails like in this leaf bookmark pattern)

Prompt/Challenge Title: Chaser
Project Name: Cat Bookmarks
Team: Moose Jaw Meteorites
Brief Description: These cat bookmarks (left pattern, right pattern) were made for summer reading at my local library. I used 3 colors in the most cat-like yarn I had. For both patterns, I skipped the tails, did 4 ch for the ears, and did braided tails like in this leaf bookmark pattern.

Prompt/Challenge Title: Crafter’s Choice #1
Project Name: Mexican Chicken Thighs with Black Beans & Mule Driver’s Rice
Team: Moose Jaw Meteorites
Brief Description: A Brazilian friend recommended arroz de carreteiro (mule-driver’s rice) (recipe), so I decided to try making it. I wasn’t sure what to make with it and ended up trying another new recipe, mexican chicken thighs with black beans. They both turned out well. I’m not sure how often I’ll make the rice, but it’s nice to have a recipe to use beef jerky in (I usually have some in our emergency food stash).

Prompt/Challenge Title: Snitch
Project Name: Garlic Butter Chicken and Potatoes
Team: Moose Jaw Meteorites
Brief Description: You don’t necessarily need to wear gloves to make this, but touching raw chicken grosses me out, so I buy disposable food gloves to wear when I need to handle any. I used this recipe and served it with steamed vegetables.

Prompt/Challenge Title: Teamwork
Project Name: Pumpkin Muffins
Team: Moose Jaw Meteorites
Brief Description: I made a double batch of these muffins (recipe) to take to a family reunion. They turned out well, but unfortunately they weren’t very popular & I ended up taking most of them back home with me. More muffins for me I guess? :woman_shrugging:
