WELCOME TO THE HARRY POTTER CRAFTALONG - SUMMER QUIDDITCH EDITION!

The Harry Potter Craftalong (HPC) is a way to share your crafts, cheer on friends, celebrate your love of Harry Potter, and most of all to be inspired.

If you have been curious about us in the past, but worried about joining such a long-running Craftalong, NOW is the perfect time to join in. The Craftalong has been reimagined, and is going in new direction. Each session we will have prompts inspired by the Wizarding World, Molly’s Housecraft Challenges to motivate you on mundane tasks, & the occasional Minister of Magic Mission. Complete crafts inspired by these prompts, and you earn Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans for your Team. While the prompts themselves are HP themed, your crafts do not have to be. You may craft anything you wish. You may join anytime during a term, and participate as much as you like.

Each regular project is worth 10 Bertie Bott’s Beans for your Team. LC Challenge entries, items for LC Swaps, or charity creations, will all earn you 10 Bonus Beans! And Minister for Magic Missions earn a whopping 30 Beans! At the end of each term, we will take an average of each Team’s total, and declare a winning Team!

This shorter SUMMER TERM is inspired by the the most popular game in the Wizarding World, QUIDDITCH!

To participate, first choose a team. Then read through the prompts below, create a craft to fit the challenge, and post it here. If your project doesn’t fit any prompts, or if you’ve already fulfilled a prompt it fits, simply label it as Crafter’s Choice #1, #2, etc. (You may submit Crafter’s Choice as many times up to 10 times.) That’s all there is to it!

Prompts:
:sunrise: Preseason Training - Get ready for an excellent Quidditch season by getting in plenty of practice with something you’re not great at. If sewing zippers confounds you, make a zippered pouch; if you can never get your quiche to come out right, take time to perfect your recipe!

:goal_net: Keeper - Sometimes we guard our stash too closely. Take this chance to use up a ton of stash in some way. Cut up a bunch of scraps into Charm Squares and make a quilt top, or stash busting all your small balls of leftover yarn into a giant scrappy basket. Using a bit of a new supply is fine, as long as it allows you to use up stash. (Example: Buying a spool or black thread, so you can sew all your dark fabric scraps together.)

:sparkles: Chaser - Chasers work in groups of 3. Please craft something that includes 3 of something; 3 colors, 3 ingredients, 3 distinct steps in its creation, etc. Alternately you may craft something that takes over 3 hours to complete.

:two_men_holding_hands: Beater - Beaters work as a pair, to keep the rest of the team safe. Craft something that will keep someone or something safe. A bucket hat to protect your kiddo from the sun, potholders to protect you from hot pans, or a fabric cover to protect your Kindle, etc.

:handshake: Teamwork - All great Quidditch players know that they are only as good as their team. Please celebrate the magic of groups, by crafting something for a party of at least 5+ people. This could be cupcakes to share with your coworkers, a lawn game to be played by several children, or a large afghan your whole family can snuggle under for family movie night.

:eyes: Seeker - Seek out something fascinating! An intriguing pattern to try, a new craft you’d never heard of before, an amazing supply you saw and just had to buy, etc.

:seven: Seven - Seven has long been seen as a magical number in mythology, science and mathematics, so it is no surprise that each Quiddich team consists of 7 members. Share with us a project that uses this magical number in some way, such as using 7 shades of the rainbow, or 7 different materials.
0000000
:cricket_bat_and_ball: Beater Bats - Beater’s use wooden bats to hit Bludgers away from their team’s players. Craft something that uses a wooden tool in its construction, such as a wooden paintbrush for a watercolor, of a wood handled hammer to build a new set of shelves.

:red_circle: Quaffle - The Quaffle is a ball with indentations for the players to grip. Please get to grips with a WIP that has been lingering around your space. The quilt you cut out the pieces for, but never put together, the mending that has been piling up, etc. Alternately you may make a batch of waffles, or anything with a waffle-like texture.

:warning: Bludger - A bludger is a ball that flies at all players, attempting to knock them off their brooms. Please ‘knock something off’ your To Do list, that you’ve been meaning to get to for a while now.

:baby_chick: Snitch - The Snitch is a curious magical object that has flesh memory, meaning it can recognize the first person to touch it. Makers wear gloves while creating them, so that the first person to touch it will be the Seeker who captures it. Please craft something that retains the memory of touch, or that you must wear gloves to create. This could be something like a garden stepping stone with your child’s hand print, beads created from air dry clay that retains your fingerprints, or using a material like Apoxie Sculpt, which you wear gloves to kneed before using.

:broom: Broom - Brooms are of course magical vehicles of flight for Witches and Wizards, but they are also practical items that are used to help clean and keep our homes. Furthermore, having a clean home can help your mental load feel lighter, and yourself feel freer to create. Please give yourself the gift of a clean or organized space in your home, so that you will feel free enough to joyfully create. This can be your craft space, or any other space that is really bothering you. Please share before and after photos.

:dizzy: Goal Hoops - Craft something that is round or hoop shaped, or comes in a set of three. Alternately, please craft something that is a large personal crafting goal, such as creating that epic fandom afghan or repainting your deck.

:trophy: Quidditch Cup - A cup or trophy is a symbol of the winning team’s victory and a reward for their hard work. Reward yourself in some way, for all your hard work learning your craft(s) over the years. Now that you’re a great knitter, buy the fancy yarn you’ve had your eye on, and make yourself a sweater. Decide that you deserve a dedicated craft space, and set yourself up a desk or cart to create from.

:yarn: Crafter’s Choice - If you have a project that doesn’t fit any of the prompts, or you have already fulfilled the prompt it fits, you may still post it as “Crafter’s Choice” for 10 Beans. You may submit as many projects as you wish under this option. When using this option, please number your Crafter’s Choice posts to help keep it clear when tracking points. (Ie: Crafter’s Choice #1, Crafter’s Choice #2)

:basket: :woman_mage: :shallow_pan_of_food: Molly’s Housecraft Challenges :yarn: :woman_mage: :mantelpiece_clock:
:yarn: Scrap Busting: Channel your inner Molly and craft something solely from scraps or stash.
:thread: WIP Challenge: The work of a mum of 7 never seems to end. Please complete a Work In Progress.
:screwdriver: Reparo: Channel your inner Arthur and repair something, alter something, or organize something.

:sparkles: :scroll: :sparkles: Minister for Magic Missions
Current Mission: June 10 - August 31

Dear Magical Friends,
Summer is often a time for visiting friends and family, both in the Wizarding World, and out in the Muggle sphere. My own Muggle family often went on summer holidays together, and I cherish those memories. Please craft something to enjoy with friends and family this summer, either at home or abroad.

Sincerely,
Minister for Magic
Hermione Granger-Weasley

Such fun prompts! I made a copy of Hermione’s called Summer '25 that’s got this term’s prompts. Maybe someone already made one that I missed, but feel free to use the one I made if not.

Thank you so much for doing that!

Hey Friends. Just wanted to give you an update. Surgery went well on Tuesday. I’m wrapped up in a new, slightly shorter plaster cast/splint. The shorter length allows me to move my fingers more, which is helping with the stiffness and swelling. I’m still in pain, but it’s better/more manageable. I feel like it is at least healing now. I go in for a checkup on the 24th.

Weirdest part is not knowing what the incision looks like under there. I’m so used to needing to change a dressing and keep it clean. Just not checking it for 2 weeks feels crazy. Really wonder what my tattoo looks like now…

Prompt/Challenge Title: Housecraft -Reparo
Project Name: Pants Hemming
Team:
Brief Description:
I can’t believe I managed this. I hemmed a pair of pants one handed! Under normal circumstances I probably wouldn’t post it here, because it would normally be a 5 minute repair. In this case, it took me 30 minutes to thread the machine, wind a bobbin, iron and pin, then stitch. And now I have a soft pair of daytime pants that I can easily pull up one handed.
