In this year’s Sketchbook Revival tutorial blitz, there was a class by Eulalia Mejia called King Night that I fell in love with. @AIMR and @Lisasteatime both made lovely versions of that tutorial and posted them on LC. AIMR’s piece and Lisasteatime’s piece. I decided to do my own thing but use the basic techniques from the original tutorial: mixed media, using layered cardboard. I wanted to work small so I picked a 4x6 canvas and thin cardboard.
I finished the piece by gluing the layers with E6000. I also used acrylic ink to splatter the heck out of the background to create snow.
Ultimately I used the finished piece for the Grab Bag swap and it lives with @EclecticDreamer now. The letters for the Grab Bag swap this round are G and B, so my Great Beast was a natural fit.
Lookit this cutie pie! I love how dimensional and textured his looks. I hope one just like it lives in the forest behind my house! Just so long as they are as kind and chill as this one looks, that is.

What a way to put your own spin on the cardboard art! Turned out really nice!
I really enjoyed that lesson and am glad that you and others are exploring it as well! Such a nice way to get some dimension into a piece that is not too serious!
