Would anyone be interested in doing a swap all about movement? I’m thinking of @gozer’s awesome light it up swap, which inspired so many amazing items. This would be a similar idea in that you’d need to craft something that incorporates movement. Like a pop up, pull tabs, an automata, a puzzle box, slide puzzle, a picture with a lift the flap element, music box…
Oooh. This one sounds like a fantastic challenge and would be an amazing gallery!
How intriguing!!
That sounds really cool!
Sounds cool, but I wouldn’t know what to do. I would enjoy the gallery though.
Sooooo I’ve made a pinterst board of ideas. The movement could be complex or super simple, as long as it’s part of what’s crafted.
For example:
An embroidery hoop with a door that opens
And there are lots of crafts already on LC that would fit the brief:
There are a ton of crafts that would work for this theme.
I love all those examples. It makes it less intimidating.
Exactly! Movement doesn’t have to be some big fancy mechanism, it can be as simple as a paper doll or a stuffie with moveable parts. My hope, if we do the swap, is that thinking about making something that moves unlocks creativity and pushes us to make something fun and new.
Articulated paper dolls are really cool
I didn’t even think of an articulated paper doll, even though I’ve made them, and have gobs of printable versions pinned!
Your examples are making me even more intrigued!
There are some amazing paper dolls and they’re so fun!
Absolutely!
Late to the party here, but I’m intrigued…
So many good ideas for swaps recently - I want to make all of them!
But will have to check the timing to make sure I don’t stretch myself too thin.
Nobody’s offered to organize it so this swap is still entirely theoretical! But 100% agree there have been a ton of awesome swap ideas offered lately and I always want to do them all, even though that’s not possible.
I assumed you were wanting to organize it. I’m happy to organize it though!
I know STS is starting soon and then there will be holiday swaps.
So just let me know if you have a time frame in mind or want to wait until next year, etc.
I’ve never organized a swap before so I’m a teensy bit hesitant about that. But I’d be happy to co-organize if that would be ok. Or more than happy to let a more experienced organizer lead this. Do you think first week of October would be good? Or are we more likely to attract more swappers in the new year?
October is good!
Where you thinking of like a medium sized item?
And how long for crafting?
You could definitely organize a swap! It’s actually pretty fun pairing people up. It’s a learning curve but definitely doable.
(I don’t mean this as pressure, just encouragement if you wanted to try. @gozer helped me a lot when I organized a bag swap on LC)
Id be happy to walk you through it @Tapestry . I would more than willingly be your co-organizer.
