Nerd Games - Summer Camp 2025

Prompt: Research Project #1
Team: Stargazers
Project Name: Dear Stella Boo! Quilt
Project Link: Click for Pics of my cat
Brief Description: I got this fabric as a gift from my Mom for my birthday a year and I half ago. I absolutely LOVE the colors and the fact that it is Halloween without being in your face Halloween. I was so scared to mess it up that I put it off. I finally decided to get my Big Girl Panties on and take on the challenge - and I LOVE it. Its not perfect, and that makes me love it more!
PS. The Quilting thread is glow-in-the-dark!

@gozer, congrats on finishing your quilt!!! I like the softness of the color of your sashing/backing.
I love your interpretation of the needlework heart! It’s fun and unique.

Brief Description: I did one of those grid-transfer drawing puzzles. Considering I’m not really a draw-er, I’m pretty happy with how closely mine matched the one in the answer key.

Adventure Club #5- Sight and identify a bird
On Sunday, I met some friends for brunch at Elizabeth Park in Hartford, CT. I got there early and saw a bird I wasn’t familiar with. It’s a white-breasted nuthatch. It was hard to get a decent photo because it moved around a lot!

Rainy Day Activity
While it hasn’t been raining much, it’s been pretty hot, so I have been staying inside by the fan or AC. And, I did go through a big pile of mail that I had shoved into a bag last month. I definitely need a better system

I haven’t been commenting much because I have been insanely busy with other LC duties, but I am going to try to start carving more time out for that starting now. I am not going to go back an comment on everything (time issues) but I have been greatly inspired by all the amazing projects. I love the way each of us are interpreting the postcards and hearts! Its so fun to see that.

@megwell That puzzle picture is great and would be fun to make for a zine swap!

Slowly visiting all the cabins and catching up with everyone’s activities. This is such a great camp, life just keeps getting in the way of the fun :woman_shrugging:

Prompt: July Battle - Seasoned Camper
Team: Cabin Stargazers
Project Name: My crafts bag charm
Project Link:
Brief Description:
I felt like crafting something small today, but couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do. So I looked through my saved links and found a short video showing how to crochet a flower around some beads. The video is less than 5 minutes, but I think the flower took me more than half an hour, so newbie almost took this prompt. But then I had a random floppy flower. Inspired by the keychain and purse charm swap, I dug through my crafting boxes and found some loose bits I made in the past, and some more beads, and connected them all together on a keyring. It is now on my laptop bag.
I went with seasoned camper as the keychain now contains all sorts of different crafts I know, from previous “seasons” of camp.

Prompt: Free Range- Arts & Crafts Club- July
Team: Cabin Stargazers
Project Name: Pastel Heart

Project Link: Pastel Heart

Brief Description: I only did cross stitch on the purple, and tried to vary my stitch patterns for most of the colors. I went at it without properly planning, so once I stitched the center 3 colors (pink, orange, yellow), I could see that my vision wouldn’t really work, so I winged it!

Adventure Club 5
Using a cardinal feels really basic, but this striking birb landed on the deck as I was opening the sliding door earlier, and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to check this prompt off.

Apologies for the convience-store-security-camera picture quality; I took the photo through the screen and on quite a zoom.

@craftADDchick - your heart turned out darling. I love the soft colors and the disign you picked!

@megwell - I love cardinals!

A crow would be basic, a cardinal is exceptional - at least from my point of view. Crows are everyday birds that I see all the time, but we don’t get cardinals here, so you’re fortunate to be visited by such beautiful birds.

Awww his red feathers are coming in! I love watching juvenile cardinals.

Also! I already submitted birds, but based on this convo here, I’m realizing that birds we see every day are very dependent on area so the “boring” birds are worth sharing too. Most of the ones in our yard are invasive (bleh) but may be fun to see. Like this meijro that was chattering up a storm outside our window the other day.

Birds mostly look like small blurry moving spots to me. We see so many cardinals in upstate SC, and I love them because I can actually see them. Plus they add a bright spot of color to my day and they’re pretty

RAINY DAY

My office/craft room was OUT. OF. CONTROL! So much stuff literally everywhere! It took me almost 3 hours of solid work to get it back into shape. Really deplorable.

I’ve been wanting/needing to clean it for a really long time, but kept putting it off because it was just SO MUCH and to be honest, I just didn’t wanna. But we switched internet providers so the guy coming to install the new wiring in our house was going to have to come into my office. I had no choice because there was no chance that he was going to be able to get anything done otherwise. And I say hooray because I LOVE that it’s so tidy - I can find everything, I actually have room to work on projects… SO MUCH BETTER!!

Now that it’s nice and tidy, I plan to be very OCD about tidying up behind myself as I work. (We’ll see how that goes - I tend to be a rather chaotic crafter sometimes…)

I should have taken before photos. Y’all would have been mortified. Which, honestly, makes me glad that I didn’t.

Prompt: July Cabin Pride
Team: Cabin Stargazers
Project Name: Sunset heart
Project Link: My version of the wooden heart
Brief Description: I had a plan for my heart, but after seeing @gozer’s amazing stargazing bunny, I realized my cabin pride idea of a few asterisk-like stars on a black background was pretty lackluster. I was inspired to come up with a new and better design, so thank you, gozer, for pushing me to rethink my plan. I love the result! Also, thank you Nerd Game organizers for giving us all a chance to use our imaginations to transform these hearts!

The sunset is a sign that the stars will soon be sparkling and here at the edge of this sunset, you can see the approaching night sky already replete with stars.

Congratulations on getting it all under control, that truly is such a wonderful accomplishment! I find that a clutter free environment contributes to a clutter free mind and is a huge benefit to my mental well being. My whole house is currently out of control and it is so overwhelming. I’m out of town right now, but I am planning to do a major tidy up when I get back…I will just have to resist the siren song of crafting, or at least strike a balance between the two.

That is beautiful @AudiobookLover! I love the graduation and the sparkly stars in the background. Beautifully done!
