Nerd Games - Summer Camp 2025

I modded my July postcard today and will drop it in a mail slot tomorrow! Of course the post office won’t actually do anything with it until Saturday.

Swimming Test - Before jumping in the lake, let’s ensure you can swim! Spend 10 minutes looking up a tutorial or pattern for a project you (might) want to make. Report below when you’re done!

Project Name: Updated Chainmaille Shirt

Brief Description: I’ve been making chainmaille for about 30 years now and this shirt itself was one I made for my son about 6 years ago. I periodically resize it as he grows, which is what I just finished doing for an upcoming Renn Faire.

Oh my I feel like this is the primary way I waste (spend?) time, so I’m sure I’ll check this one off soon!

Edit to add: ope l just realized I inadvertently did another activity on the Adventure Club list! Even though it was mostly to have a place to hide from fireworks, I built the cats our usual blanket fort around the cat tree in case they needed a place to hide!

Done! I’m always hunting up tutorials and inspiration pics. Tonight it was a tutorial on painting river rocks in watercolor.

@Mountain_and_Clouds - I love your addition of the campfire to your heart. And you added a moon, too! Welcome to Cabin Finger Painters, the place where we will be getting to to crafty hijinks

@saintcady How hard is it to make chainmail? Is it harder or easier to resize it?

Prompt: Sight and identify a bird

My kids claimed to see a roadrunner the other day and I didn’t believe them because I haven’t seen a roadrunner since we left New Mexico over 26 years ago. Turns out my kids were right! There’s a Greater Roadrunner living in our neighborhood! I’ve spotted him twice now, including this morning.

Meep meep! Keep an eye out for falling anvils or freshly painted road lines! :flushed:

I don’t think chainmaille is hard, especially basic stuff like the 4-in-1 European maille. There are definitely harder patterns out there, but this is a basic as it gets. Here’s a good tutorial
Forming something like a shirt isn’t too bad, it’s a lot like a knitting or crochet pattern. And resizing is actually way easier than most other mediums, because you just undo a row and put in an even number more. Invisible!

Those sunflowers are gorgeous!

Project Name: Flower magnets

Brief Description: I had these cutouts leftover from a laser cutting project and just couldn’t quite throw them away. Turns out they wanted to be flowers! I added magnets to the back. Likely bound for STS. The song inspiration is Boom-de-ada
I love the mountains, I love the rolling hills
I love the flowers, I love the daffodils
I love the fireside when all the lights are low

I just completed my swimming test by spending WAY MORE than 10 minutes down an amigurumi rabbit hole. I’m thinking I might try this little dinosaur next!
