Ongoing Ornament Swap 2020 Discussion and Gallery

Between family stuff and crafting stuff, I’ve been fairly busy and I haven’t taken the time to comment lately. But there are so many fun additional ornaments!
@AIMR, I really like the shape of the sloth ornament and all those little beads give it an extra pop!
@RagingSloth, that owl came out really cute!
You did a great job on the color transitions. Your fish looks like it will be extra sparkly with so many beads and sequins to reflect the light!

I love that little sparkly fish.

I have one sent item still wading through snow drifts to Canada. But it will arrive. I know it will.

I wonder when the one I sent to Canada will get there! Wow…lots of snow up North…as I walk barefoot to my mailbox to see if I got any mail…hee hee

Ooh, the pom pom owl is very cool and unique! I love the pretty little hair decor, too!

@HeroicHatchling I love the fish @RagingSloth made for her! There are so many pretty beaded details!

Yeah, we have a couple packages that seem to be traveling the country…or world…right now! Hoping they show up soon!

You are treading barefoot on dangerous ground there…as I wade through the snow to take out the compost. :snowman_with_snow: :snowman_with_snow: :snowman_with_snow:

All I can say is thank goodness the snow blower started this afternoon.

I’ve been waiting and waiting for @Whistlefish to receive her ornament, so imagine my surprise when I found it back in my mailbox.
It was returned to me due to ‘insufficient’ postage. The frustrating thing is that I weighed the package and used the USPS postage calculator to ensure I put enough stamps on it.
I am going to resend it tomorrow and hope it gets there before Christmas!

That is so annoying! Usually when that happens, I asked to pay for the postage they said was under paid. It’s not uniform anywhere, really. Ugh. Second time’s gonna make it!

I worry about insufficient postage as well and usually just add extra…I found one of my neighbor’s mail just laying on the ground next to the block mailboxes…I don’t know if the post person just missed, they slipped, or what…they were totally soaked from the wet grass but I put them into her mailbox anyway…what is going one with our mail? Trying to be patient but some things have just gone downhill a lot!

Hey all!
I’m so excited - I got my amazing angel package from @AuFish! I got SO spoiled!! She sent me not one but TWO amazing ornaments!

The first is Snorlax, which is what I’d originally been claimed for:

Look at this incredible little snoozer!!! The belly is a big hollow bauble, so the glitter and stars sprinkle around when you move him! He’s sooooo cute and a perfect fit around the bauble; I’m impressed! I love his little face with his little fangs sticking out too. Eeeep!

And then, as if that weren’t enough, she also included this awesome Tetris ornament!!

It’s a game cartridge holder that looks like a console, filled with tiny homemade Tetris ornaments, with even more of them dangling and sparkling below it on beaded strings! So fun!! Oh, the hours I have spent playing Tetris…

Thank you SO much, AuFish; I was having a really stressful day at work today and when this package arrived and I opened it during my afternoon break, it brought SUCH a smile to my face!! You were the perfect angel!! <3 <3

PS I notice it came in a yarn of the month club box; I’ve been looking into that - would you recommend it?

I’m so glad they made it there! Hubs is getting an original Gameboy with Tetris for Christmas, so I had the game on the brain.

DGY is great for one skein projects. There is a lot of colorful yarns and different thicknesses to play with. There is a pattern in every box and the ability to trade points in for gift cards is really nice. Their customer service is very accommodating as well. I just passed my 2nd year with them. It is my happy mail reward for being a good grownup when the bills come.

I was thinking of joining their yarn club…the problem is that I end up buying the skirts…I have over 50 of them, half with tags still on! It is my way of having pretty fabric to look at but not buying fabric…lol…

The sparkly fish is adorable. So many sequins!!! I love it!

Snorlax with the glitter belly is amazing! And the Tetris one is very cool, too. This swap continues to be EPIC!

@AuFish, I love how the Snorlax has a fun, glittery belly! And Tetris sounds like it was the perfect choice for the video game ornament!

That is a very good question! I recently received a bunch of incorrect mail in my mailbox. One letter was intended for our next door neighbor, but a few of the other pieces were for random people around town who were on completely different streets.
Earlier in the swap I received a notification from the post office that I owed over $6.00 for an ornament package I’d sent out a few weeks prior. It was a flat rate package that I’d paid the flat rate price for. I had to appeal the charge and after reviewing it, they finally revoked the additional charge.
So, I too am left wondering what is going on with our mail.

I think there is a shortage of help with the pandemic as well as everything happening all at once with poor leadership. I am giving vendors and sellers a lot of slack because it is not their fault…I hear people are leaving etsy and other small business owners bad reviews when shipping is the issue, not the product…that is not fair!

My sister got yelled at by someone at her post office because the poor guy thought she was cutting the line when she was merely dropping off prepaid packages. Normally, she would cut him a new one, but she was calm and explained that she was not in line because she did everything at home…he looked embarrassed and a few other people scowled at him, but tempers are short and people are frustrated…we need to show additional compassion.

@AudiobookLover The game cartridge holder was the supply from HPB.

@AIMR The skirts are beautiful. I’m saving points up to afford them.

lol with all the yarn you get that won’t take long!

It’s perfect, thank you! Yes, it needs to survive dropping…and being stolen by children and played with as they make it “swim” from branch to branch. And it does survive, hooray! It looks like a deep sea puffer fish who is at peace with it’s surroundings and doesn’t feel the need to puff at the moment, glowing with bioluminescence as it sparkles with all the Christmas tree light. I love it. The beading is wonderful, I would never have the patience for all that! I thought I was getting fancy with a few sequins on the hat of the gnome I sent out, you really went all out!

Aha! I never would’ve guessed it, even if given 500 guesses, lol. You made very good use of it!

I received from @saintcady today! She used an unexpected (to me) technique and I love the result! I’ll post tomorrow when there’s better light.

Oh good! It’s been like 2+ weeks and I was starting to think I could have walked there faster as I’m only a state away!
