Painted bIrd stones - part 1

So many of us know that we’re currently in the midst of Inktober, or Birdtober or whatever-tober— the challenges to draw or create something to share with other artists every day for the month of October!
Some of our local conservation groups have created lists too, and I randomly decided I was going to paint a rock for our list of native manu (birds) created by Birds Not Mosquitoes, Birds_Hawaii_Past_Present, and Aloha Post, and is mostly on Instagram. (The calendar/list can be found here.)

Anywho, I’m trying to complete one stone for each manu, so here is approximately the first quarter of them for the month!
(Also, I’ve never really ever felt a desire to paint stones before, so I’m not sure where this came from…)

Kaua’i 'Akialoa:

'i’iwi:

O’ahu 'ō’ō:

'Alalā:

Po’ouli:

'Apapane:

Kioea (there are actually two birds with this same name - an extinct honeyeater, and a living curlew - so I made a stone for each):

Pueo:

It’s really hard for me to not immediately start giving them away or something, but I also really want to see what the whole collection looks like at the end! :crossed_fingers:t3:

Also, it’s not too late to join in!
Happy Ink-Bird-Manu-tober (to-BIRD?) to all!

These are delightful and made me smile. I especially like the ones painted directly on the rocks without a painted background. They look so rustic. Your painting is very good.

These are delightful. I love the O’ahu 'ō’ō with the patterned tail. And the 'Alalā looks like it has attitude in the best kind of way.
