I’m in! I didn’t vote for a video because I’ll probably be working on my, uh, nebula alternative .
It’s Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend but we are doing our get together on Monday so I’ll plan to join this on Sunday.
Gate-crasher here!
Been scrolling through from the beginning.
This is SO exciting!
So, it lasts the entire year? A new one will start for 2024?
Will the theme be the same? I love mixed media/altered art. I also want to begin art journaling.
Do you have to sign on at the beginning or can you jump in any time? I expect to be able to join in 2024 but not sure if it could be Jan 1.
Thanks!
Hi, all are welcome at any time. There’s no real structure or theme. Just a place paper and mixed media art lovers can come to share.
We don’t do structured prompts and challenges like some craft alongs. We share tips, pictures, ideas, etc. you can join in now or whenever you’re ready. We start a new thread every year so it’s not so overwhelming for anyone new joining in.
We occasionally do zooms where I pic a video and we all art together as the video plays. Sometimes people like to do exactly as the video does or use it as loose inspiration. I try to list the supplies needed and not pick videos that use super specific materials.
We used to average one video zoom a month but lately I’ve been pretty busy.
So welcome and we can’t wait to see what you create
Thought better of my commenting and that maybe I should have msg’d someone instead. Felt that someone might say, Please don’t clutter up the thread with these questions but msg someone. Members come to see your post and you’ve shared nothing. I would have understood and not been offended.
Thanks so much for taking time to answer.
The craftalongs and swaps are called shenanigans for a reason…casual, friendly, inviting, and the place to casually chat…welcome and share, or just enjoy the show!!!
Im going to try really hard to make this one. It looks so cool!
Ask away! My thought is if you have questions others might have the same questions!
We’re very informal.
Here’s my take on the nebulas. I covered the whole thing with a wash of amethyst genuine so it has a nice shimmer that doesn’t show in the picture. Unfortunately I was impatient and didn’t let the other layer dry completely so I got streaks running through the pieces.
I’m not sure which colors I used exactly but there’s some opera pink, imperial purple, amethyst genuine, phthalo blue (gs), Prussian blue, and indigo in there.
Gorgeous! The layers look great.
they look great. what kind of paper did you use? I had smooth watercolor and I was too lazy to go upstairs for textured paper that I think would have given better results.
I was using this Fabriano Studio Watercolor paper
I really like the darker colors. I do think the texture of the paper makes a difference in how the colors spread out…I am going to go look for more textured water color paper instead of the smooth.
Beautiful job…hope you can join us this Sunday on Zoom, @photojenn ! I miss you!
Awww I miss you too Evenings and weekends are hard because that’s when I’m usually spending time with my husband
I always intend to come to the zoom but then hanging out with him usually wins out.
The best crafty time for me is during the weekday when most normal people are working.
That looks amazing. A super thin black outline would really make it pop, like Kelli did on this mushroom.
That is amazing! You nailed the highlights and color shading.
Wow. I yearn to draw real things and not cartoons. Lovely!
The pink
Same. That pinecone is stunning! I’ve honestly never said that about a pinecone before.
