Day 9 - thorny. I was originally going to do a cactus but have been wanting to carve this stamp from Julie’s class and book (not my design but I’m happy with my carving) so decided today was the day.

I really enjoyed it last year and will probably do it again this year

Does anyone do anything to treat their paint water before putting it down the drain? I’ve been looking at the Golden Crash System but it’s a bit pricey. This DIY version looks like it does the same thing but is more involved. I’ve also seen ones where you just filter the water though pantyhose before it goes down the drain which is better than nothing but different than what the other two are doing.

I’m leaning towards the Golden Crash System mainly because it looks easiest to use which would hopefully lead to me using it consistently vs reverting to just dumping paint water down the drain.

You might want to check with your water treatment facility. Ours treats water with flocculants already. In my mind, even if everyone were to do this, it would not make a difference at the water treatment facility.

I am not sure a few individual people doing the “right” thing would make a difference.

The bigger concern for our area are PFA’s. There has been a huge lawsuit and fight to stop companies from dumping into our Cape Fear River. Our county gets our water from groundwater, not the river since we are too close to the ocean.

I do filter out my waste water only because I don’t want paint clogging my own sinks. It is very minimal, though.

I was looking at the crash system but have yet to purchase. Mr. Road didn’t like the idea of using chemicals to get rid of chemicals and prefers the evaporation method. Not that I’ve done that either…

I think my main concern is about eventually clogging the pipes by repeatedly rinsing acrylic down them. A strainer and coffee filters is probably a good place to start.

That is a valid concern…my bathroom sink got clogged up and when I unclogged it, there were bits of paint film lining the pipe. I used a brush down the pipe and I have since used a filter over the drain. I toss the filters in an empty creamer container with the lid off.

But then, I have created even more waste with the filters in the landfill! It is a never-ending cycle.

I like the idea of pouring the paint water into a large container & letting the water evaporate until you’re only left with dried bits to scrape off into the trash. We run a dehumidifier in the summer so it would dry out quickly in a tray on top of the laundry machines. Or in the sun, that would be very quick.

I caught some squirrels this summer drinking out of the bucket I was using on the deck so I have it sitting next to the water heater in the garage…I think the heat from that also dries it up quickly.

Yikes! Maybe I’ll make a screen cover if I use a tray this summer.

That’s a good idea!

We have an old dog dish that we keep filled with water for the birds and the small critters. Some of the neighborhood cats also drink from it. The small creek behind our house is often dried up over the hot summers.

I put a giant gelli plate on my Christmas list…and since I do all of the Amazon shopping…I think I will probably find it under my tree!

I want this 16"x20" plate but… :money_mouth_face: :money_mouth_face: :money_mouth_face:

Yeah I looked at that one and decided 12x14” would do. It’s surprising how much they increase in price!

You are getting such nice crisp lines now! The snowflake pattern is very “clean” and not raggedy!

You will have such a nice variety by the end of the month!

I need to change the needle in my sewing machine and my brain isn’t working this morning. For sewing painted paper and canvas, do I want a bigger number or smaller number needle? I have 75/11 and 90/14 universal needles available. I’m thinking the 90/14?
