Doing two HST would inhibit the stretch, but I think it would take more time , with having to stop and cut.
Because this pattern doesn’t lend itself to much chain piecing, as there is very little repetition of the same two colours in blocks, so you need your wits about you to get the right ones together. I feel that a walking foot, and sharp needles and not going too fast, would actually be quicker overall.
I didn’t have any issues with stretching, and I didn’t square each block after sewing together each square. Actually I’ve done almost no squaring up. And my points are meeting and 80% of the time.
I have a couple of weeks off over Christmas and want to get this quilt finished, so I dug it out …again and have now cut enough for a few more blocks, enough to make a lap quilt. I have also ordered some fabric for sashing, so fingers crossed the w/c 19/12, I might get at least the top done. (depends on how I think I want to quilt it - hand or machine as to whether I’ll get that bit done)
I’m just going to put it out there, it is hard to pick up a project after 9years (Yep, I checked), with no notes and remember what the plan was!!
I have to get thinking about my Dec BOM but I need to make a stuffie and several capes to go with animal masks for my GD. And I am feeling slow and crabby. End of a cold and just simply feeling sorry for myself.
But I did get the scrappy quilt done. Now I just need to find time to photograph when the sun is out and post. I really love it and almost don’t want to send it off to a deserving person (we are making quilts for some of our aging and ill folks in our women’s community). But I have so many lap quilts already. And I love them all!
I’m pretty sure you’re allowed to feel crabby when you’re just getting over a cold .
The gift you’re making your granddaughter sounds fun! Will your December BOM be the start of a new quilt? I’m looking forward to seeing your scrappy quilt!
But, I will put together the Pinwheel blocks and put a sashing in between them in orange batik. I’ve just ordered this courtesy of @Edel who put up a prize in the scrappy along.
