What mat? ![]()
I make a lot of mats for the cats as well…they are messy little critters!
I have been wanting to destash my limited supply of flannel and flannel scraps for years…why didn’t I think about making more of these! Thanks!

Ack…cute overload
And shelters often like little cat mats for their shelter animals. We foster so I don’t make any for the shelter, though we’ve begun making small fleece mats for when the kittens go in for adoption. Something with familiar smells to help calm them and send with them to their forever homes.
Be sure to ask first, they all have different needs.
-I Mvanrh11, offer scrappy red quilt blocks for month’s prompt
I am excited to use the color prompts to make this scrappy quilt I am using this pattern Free Scrap Stash Plus Quilt pattern - Quilty Love
I will use the first 6 months to make all the quilt blocks and then will sew it together in the second half of the year
Ooh, I like that rainbow quilt! I’m excited to see yours at the end of the year!
@MistressJennie I love the Harry Potter themed quilt. It works so very well. What spell did you use?
@Mvanrh11 what a fun “red” quult pattern. Mapes me happy just to look at it.
Got the rows together and the borders on during nap time. The border is reading blue on my monitor, but it’s a peacock-kinda-teal. I think I’m going to bind them in the same color.
What would the spell for quilting be in Harry Potter… ![]()
I love that it is HP without being so blatantly HP. Are you donating this one? If so, some kid is going to be very, very happy!
Yep. I’ll be making two identical copies. And then two that are more traditionally “HP”, with a 4-Patch block that is the 4 Houses, opposite a solid black block with Harry’s glasses & scar. My friend Melissa will be making one as she learns to quilt, and I’ll make the other, in pieces, as examples for each week’s sewing lesson.
@Mvanrh11’s post about her planned scrappy quilt reminded me of a scrappy quilt that has been floating around in the back of my mind for a while now. It’s called Bottled Rainbows. The designer ran a Bottled Rainbows quiltalong back in 2011, which is nice because it means there are a variety of versions to check out, plus all of the original quiltalong posts are easily available! One of these days, I’m going to have enough scraps to make my own version!
Wow, that’s a stunning pattern! I’ve sorted all my scraps by colour, I think I could make one. Maybe not that big but certainly a lap sized quilt.
I have never seen a quilt like that and it is completely enchanting!
Wow, this month passed by quickly! We have a new color prompt and BOM for next month!
February Prompt:
Orange
From rust to peach, if it falls within the orange spectrum, it will work for this prompt!
For the color prompts, the monthly color (or a varitation of that color) needs to be highlighted. This can be done in a variety of ways. For example, if the color is red, you could do a black and white quilt block with a pop of red. You could do a block made up of red scraps. You could make a mug rug that you quilt with red thread. Just have fun and make the monthly color shine!
February BOM:
Raspberry Cheesecake Block - nominated by @MistressJennie
Raspberry Cheesecake Block coloring sheet - this link also includes instructions for making the block using a different method (the ‘diamond in a square’ units are created with flying geese, hence the seams on the blue diamonds above).
Quarter 1 Challenge
(January 1 - March 31)
Ombre:
Having colors or tones that shade into each other (MW). Create a quilt project that incorporates an ombre effect.
Goal List:
Don’t forget to submit entries as you complete items on your goal lists! If you haven’t submitted a goal list yet, there’s still plenty of time!
My first quilt lesson was cancelled, as my student has a sick kiddo. On the upside, I was able to piece the block rows for my Black + Rainbow quilt, and started matching up cornerstones for the sashing rows.
Oh, so purty ![]()
A couple of years ago, late at night, I was really in the mood for quilting and I sewed a lot of strips together and then started cutting. Well, by daylight I found out I hadn’t accounted for a seam allowance.
Thankfully I’d only cut up some of the strips. I had planned to make hexies but that doesn’t work now. Does anyone have smart ideas about how to use this kind of shape?
The other half of the strips, I’ve got many ideas for, but this shape is so odd I just can’t figure it out.
Bunting
Can you just make the thing you planned but smaller? If it needs to be a certain size you could add coping strips to make up the difference.
