I am so sorry for your loss. I’m glad you found a creative outlet for the sorrow.
I had a friend who did something similar with knitting. She would angry-knit, and when she was done, she felt better, but she never kept anything because it reminded her of the things he was angry about.
They are so beautiful, and such a thoughtful gift. I hope your creative time is healing for you
I’ve done grief and anxiety crafting. During the first year of the pandemic I was lucky to be working from home full time, but I spent weekends sewing masks. A friend then distributed them to hospital office and staff, daycares, homeless people on the street, and someone wore a batman themed mask at his wedding.
I was in the process of finishing a lap quilt for my mom when she passed away, so I finished it for my sister and then continued making quilts for donations.
I ran across this quote in a series I’m reading (Wild Grove by Katherine Genet. First book is The Gathering)
“…because doing something, anything really - even knitting a hat or a sock - well, it keeps the faith in the world and despair at bay.”
Nice!
Did you stop working on the Rose Garden and start something new? Looks like a totally different color grouping than your usual brighter ones.
Gorgeous!!
This is lovely, the colours you choose are gorgeous
The quilt pattern was written to coordinate with a Mini Layer Cake (10" squares, but only 1 of each, rather than 2 in a normal layer cake) of these specific fabrics. I won both of them in a previous round of the Quiltalong, a few years ago now. Maybe 2022? I realized I needed to make it soon, because the fabrics are all ‘out of print’, and what’s left of them is slim pickings on Etsy and eBay. I managed to find one of the large florals to use as the border, and one of the greens to use as the binding at clearance prices.
I have most of the rose block components put together. I’m hoping to finish those blocks as soon as Ada eventually falls asleep for nap time…
Beautiful. I like the neutrals played against the colorful blocks.
I was allexcited about the Q2 challenge, had my planned recycle fabric (the bags my sheet set and extra pillowcases came in), was going to do the June block… but there’s not enough fabric. Okay, I’ll do 1/4 block. Fabric isn’t cutting like cotton, but whatever. I’m going with ir. Then… I sewed the 3rd/4th squares to the wrong side of the fabric. So I’m done. But I’ll have some nice tiny half square triangles for some future project.
My phone ate my “before” pics so can’t even share that much
I’m sorry things aren’t going well with your planned project! Walk away for now. Maybe you can come back to it later and things will fall into place, or maybe you can go in a new direction.
Oohh Jennie that is gorgeous
This is the quarter I quilt! I already have time set aside over the 4th of July holiday. I can’t wait to participate!
Welcome to the dark side…
Are there cookies here? Ha!
I got a special peice of fabric in today. Im so excited!
