Quiltalong - 2024

Your window seat looks so cozy!

Meanwhile… anyone know what this turquoise fabric line is called? I remember buying it at my LQS in Franklin, back in 2022. It was always kept next to the Moda Grunge, and came in a huge array of colors.

Wow, @MistressJennie, you’ve accomplished a ton this year!! I’m so impressed with how much you’re able to get done!
The name of the fabric line you’re looking for is ‘Spotted’ by Zen Chic.
@marionberries, it sounds like you’ve been quite productive! What a great way to use up your stash fabrics.

Ugh. Does it ever just feel like the universe is trying to thwart you at every turn?

I have a partially made kids quilt top that was next on my list to finish. I had the main portion of the top done, but it needed borders. I had a brown FQ to use as a skinny inner border, some ivory & brown HP quidditch fabric to use for the outer border, and some more of the deep teal-blue Kona Cotton from the 4-Patch pattern to use as the binding to help tie it all together. But the brown FQ got stolen away by some other project that must have needed that exact shade of brown. And the teal-blue strips I had cut already, somehow got put into my scrap bin of strips, instead of kept with the quilt pieces, so they got used on another project too. So now I have the remaining chunk of fabric, which is enough to cut just 2 of the 4 strips I need from.

The teal-blue came from either Joann’s or Quilting in the Valley, and was bought last spring. Biggest problem is I cannot remember the name of the color, and when I search online, there are 5 shades it looks like it could be. Oasis, Mediterranean, Teal, Caribbean, and Lagoon. So I tried Joann’s yesterday, and they don’t have any. Then I drove over to Quilting in the Valley, only to discover that location closed in March. There’s one more LQS in town, but they close in 16 minutes, and don’t open again till Tuesday. There’s a shop that may have some in Mahomet that’s open till 6:00, but that’s a 25 minute drive, and I’d need to wait till my in-laws get back from Walmart so someone would be here to watch Ada.

And yes, I have plenty of brown to bind it with. But I really feel like if I do that, the blue will stand out like a sore thumb. I think the blue would tie the quilt back together.

I just discovered my UFO stack is more ridiculous than I thought. I had to find one quilt top to fabric match at our local quilt show (Starr Design Fabrics has gorgeous hand-dyed fabrics. Also they mix/match base red, blue, yellow dyes to mix all their colors). Still haven’t found the quilt TOP but did find a strip of leftover background fabric to match with. However, in the digging, I’ve got so many “just need to iron and add border” projects. Yes, in addition to my Q4 list. I need to bring friends with me when I go shopping so they can slap my hands to keep me from trying to start something new.

Finally managed to finish this “unexpected” HP kids quilt. The top was cut and pieced February? I ended up slicing and dicing the binding.

I like the multi-colored binding!

I had planned to just use the 2 strips of teal and 2 strips of brown, but I was short by a few inches so I dug through my stash and found about 12” of the turquoise. I cut my strips in half, but I kinda wish I had cut them in thirds, so there would be more of them. Overall I’m pretty pleased with it though.

I was so excited to finally get to the quilting step on my latest quilt. I stitched the first area and when I looked to the next area to stitch, I suddenly realized that I’d sewn two blocks upside down :woman_facepalming:t3:. The frustrating part is that I knew there was a good chance those blocks could be sewn upside down (I’m making two of the same quilt and had already made that exact mistake on the first one, but thankfully caught it and fixed it in time), so I even double checked to make sure they were sewn correctly before sewing the rows together :confounded:.

Thankfully, I can still fix it, it will just be inconvenient :weary:.

Oops :sob: i’m all for happy accidents but in this case, I’d fix that too.

On the upside, I do think the stitching is gorgeous, how did you do that??

I love the design and its going to be darling!
Are you hoing to hand quilt the entire thing?

Thank you, @Immaculata and @gozer!

Immaculata, hand stitching is not my forte, so I am using Big Stitch Style Tiger Tape to help me get evenly sized and spaced stitches.

Gozer, yes, I am going to hand quilt a single line across each diagonal. Thank goodness for the Tiger Tape!

What a great product. I am themost uneven stitcher. And they have.vintage feed sacks. My feedsack quilt made by my grandmother fell to pieces many years ago. Ah, memories.

I have never heard of that, but your stitches look amazing, so that is a good promotion!

It clearly works! I love the thread as well. It’s so regular that I wondered if your machine had a special setting for this kind of stitch.

I’m doing similar hand stitching on my hexie quilt (that quilt is entirely hand sewed and quilted). A lot of people do tiny tiny stitches when they hand quilt but I actually prefer the look of larger, more visible stitches.

@edel, I saw the play “Little Shop of Horrors” over the weekend and thought of you! It was really good. The props were amazing, and the cast could really sing!
I am still in complete awe over the jacket you made.

I spent time today prepping the binding for my Rainbow Alley quilts. After cutting the strips, I sewed three together to create my binding…only to look down and see one of the strips on the floor by itself. It turns out that I had actually just sewn two of the strips together on both ends creating a loop :woman_facepalming:.

I am nearly finished with one of the quilts and just popped in to say how much I love using my zipper foot when sewing the binding down. It makes it so easy to get my stitches nice and close to the edge!

Ivedone that! Bummer.
