Quiltalong - 2024

Thanks! The book quilt was paper pieced and I am not super confident with paper piecing but this pattern was a blast to put together. I only got confused once with the cutting instructions and ended up cutting more fabric then needed. By the end of making all the books I feel a lot more confident with paper piecing so thats a win in my book.

Next year I am planning on making another book quilt which is traditionally piced which I think will be more my jam.

Which book patterns are you thinking of doing?

The one you made, or this one.

Which honestly, looks easier.

You’ve had so many great finishes! I love the patterned fabric you used for the cat and the cat shower is such a great idea and a wonderful way to shower your friend and her new cat with love!

Edit: Sorry, I was trying to add that link from my phone earlier. Karen Nyberg, (sometimes known as “Astronaut Barbie”, because she notably went to space with long blonde hair to show little girls to see that they could grow up to be astronauts), who is also an accomplished artist and quilter, is doing a project to help teach students about the history of textiles and fabric in space exploration. Students, and adult artists and quilters, can submit a completed quilt block. The blocks chosen will be stitched together into a quilt by Nyber, to be displayed at the Kennedy Center’s Earth to Space - Breaking the Sky Festival in the spring.

If you go to that link, you can find guidelines for the blocks (colors, size, what needs to be included, etc.)

I was wondering if we are gonna get the December BOM early, so one might do it in advance if one is about to make a xmas pressie from the BOMs this year?
I hope so, but if that is not what you use to do, thats ok, I have time to finish anyway.

This weekend I was at my mums, and made the November BOM and I made the three smaller squares bigger, so just the December BOM and some grid around the blocks and I will have a finished top.

I went to a quilting bee yesterday. Was excitedly sewing 20 blocks together. Got distracted when the woman who was sharing a power strip with me packed up to leave early (andi had my bits laid out wrong). Ended up sewing 2 strips on 14 blocks incorrectly so now I’ve got 28 strips to remove before i can finish my blocks. But! Hope to have a finished quilt top next week.

I love this idea, thank you for suggesting it! Here is December’s BOM and if done anytime between now and the end of December, it can count toward 2 entries into the quarterly drawing.

Does a swap item count as making a quilted item to gift somebody? If so: done! Though i can’t share pics until later. However…Spoiler!

This quilt block is made from some of the leftover pieces. I’m calling it double pinwheel. I’m sure it’s a known pattern somewhere already though. Also friends want this pattern now too.

I EclecticDreamer, offer my swapped mug rug for my medium challenge entry

(I’m tempted to call this a large, with all the re-do’s, mis-cuts, etc. Had to do the binding 3x! And had to buy more white fabric. But I feel it should be a medium)

Ok… pretty sure a gifted quilted item was one of the challenges. My swap partner just received it.

Back and front. The quilting is just lines but I’m in love with how my 3-line cross pattern around the star turned out.
