I marionberries, submit this as my March BOM entry.
This is block three for the brown/tan flannel 9” block quilt. I love a quilt that must take a year to complete because of BOMs.
I converted this pattern to 9 inches and modified it so each section was paper-piecing. I then cut out all pieces using the regular pattern. I don’t think I could have created this without paper-piecing, as flannel is not very stable. But I love the way it came out.
I will still do the other block in the rainbow flannel, but I enjoyed this one.
I don’t think I’ve got enough of my BOM fabric for this block, but I might make this one from other fabric after I’ve done the BOM.
My goals for this quarter were finishing the baby quilt, finishing the random zig zag quilt I started when I should have been finishing the baby quilt, and doing all three BOMs. There are 10 days left including a weekend and a long weekend and both tops are done, one is basted, and I finished two of three BOMs. So I might just be reaching my goals for a change!
I marionberries, submit this as my 2nd March BOM entry….for no credit.
Again I used flannel. The blue was a bit whimpy in structure so I spray starched it like crazy. This star block is fussy and pin matching all those crazy corners took some time. I have been working hard on my accuracy and getting closer all the time.
Baby quilt done and will be gifted tomorrow. Now the scariest part of all: the washing machine. I’m probably using too many colour catchers but I’m terrified of the purple bleeding.
It’s drying now, but washing went fine! No bleeding at all, the colour catchers came out without any dye on them. I used vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser so that might have helped.
The fabric is Robert Kaufman and I’ve got good experience with that brand, but the deep purple colour still scared me, especially because the seam allowance wasn’t white but stained purple.

I am glad it made it through the wash! I add a cup of vinegar in with the color catchers as well to set the dye. I do think it helps.
Thanks! The back is the same purple fabric. Mum liked it, and it matched the nursery that I hadn’t seen yet (white with bright coloured accents).
I bought yardage and a few charm packs from this line because I loved it and it was heavily discounted. I had future baby projects in mind but when I bought it but no babies were on the way at the time and I had certainly not expected this couple to have a baby, so it wasn’t bought with them in mind at all.

Good thing you had them in your stash so that you could make something fairly quickly! I love the colors and the star pattern.
Our last Quiltalong Bingo prompt for the quarter is:
Add a label to your project

Do you make your own labels? I have a Brother Embroidery machine that I rarely use. I have done simple words before on my own but would like to either purchase nice labels or get patterns to do my own.
The first quarter of the year was hard for me, but I determined to get back into sewing during the second quarter. I will be hanging out more here for inspiration.
We had life drawing in college yesterday, and I find it tedious, so I brought my sewing machine in to do life drawing as free motion quilting. When I got there I found that my travel machine can’t lower the feed dogs, and I didn’t have a darning plate, or a darning foot, so i MC Gyvered one out of a coleslaw lid. The results are here in this post Life drawings
Today I decided to make them into a mini art quilt. I used always (and still) tell my mother when she retired, not too have any money left as an inheritance, but instead to mortgage the house and spend the money on gin and toy boys. So given it was a male model, I thought it appropriate advice. But while FM stitching (it’s hard!) I thought about what I would spend the money on instead as I’ve no interest in either gin or toyboys
This is it so far, I’m trying to decide now if to sandwich it. They are all puckery and wobbly, so it would have to be minimal stitching.
