Quiltalong - 2026

It looks good @Edel but I’ve heard of so many people who abandoned it halfway. Why is that? Is it because it’s just so much work?

So pretty. Nice reward for caring for your machine.

I finally received all the fabric for the bird quilt finish. Hope to get it done soon and hung on my DW office wall. I’ll have to visit her office more often just to gaze at the beauty!

There are so many odd cuts like 3-7/8 and then you have to subcut to a certain size, etc. So many different sized blocks that are supposed to fit together but not always. Just a lot of random blocks, and strips and just too much with each row put together individually. It is not a relaxing pattern at all.

I had a really hard time getting a good shot of the colors yesterday. This is a better representation of the colors in real life.

This is what I’m thinking of for borders. 1/2" dark green inner border, 2" light gold border, and a dark purple binding.

What do you guys think?

I love it!! I really like how those borders frame the block. The green to yellow to purple seems like the perfect color choice - seriously, perfection!

Quilting progress, as seen from the back…

Oooh that looks great

That does sound like a nightmare, no matter how nice the finished result looks!

A while ago I got an applique kit for a wall hanging. I’ve not really done (hand) applique and I wanted to give it a try. It might be a nice sofa and Netflix project. The kit comes with a really nice print fabric for backing. Am I being a frugal freak for considering using a plain fabric from stash instead? I’m all for using the good things but no one is ever going to see the back.

Not at all! I would totally save the cute fabric and use a plain one.. What’s the kit?

-I MistressJennie, offer Illinois Star Wall Quilt for June’s prompt
My project uses 1 block, which represents the Fields full of corn and soybeans in central Illinois, as well as our state flower, the Violet, and our state bird, the Cardinal. The fabrics are all Kauffman batiks that I picked up at a LQS.

Congratulations on your double Bingo, @MistressJennie! :tada: That’s our second double Bingo of the quarter!

On a related note, @Edel, I’m so glad you’re enjoying the fabric you won, and @AIMR, it makes me happy to hear that you enjoy the fabrics and prizes I send out. I always do my best to choose prizes that will be appreciated and put to good use!

And on that same subject, today is the last Bingo call of the quarter. So, be sure to check your Bingo cards and see if you too are a winner!

Today’s Bingo prompt is:
Use HSTs in your project

I just realized that I never posted my goal list or BINGO cards! I switched computers and guess the pics are on the other computer. I need to find the power cord and see if I can find them! I was so sure I did it when you asked me about them way back when…I hate forgetting things, so I guess I am going to be one of those older people that writes every little thing down…UGH!

That is such a clever take on the June prompt! Turned out quite colorful and lovely!

Picture upload is still not working, but it’s a Tilda kit and the backing fabric is a full yard of a really nice Tilda print. I hadn’t really expected it to come with a backing included anyway.

I usually don’t use quilting fabric but regular cotton from the fabric store as backing. Not only does it save money but also hassle - cotton that’s not officially called quilting cotton is usually 1.40m or 1.50m wide so it saves time piecing a backing. And that’s for quilts where the back is visible. For a wallhanging you could even use unbleached cotton and nobody would know.

We are in a big heatwave here and I spent Thursday and Friday travelling for hours, so this weekend I’m not going anywhere, I’m just going to stay in my room near the a/c. I’ve cut fabric for one quilt and now I’m cutting fabric for another quilt. Both will be gifts, and I hope to finish both before the Summerween swap starts. Whether or not that’s super optimistic, I guess that depends on the weather! One is a total surprise but it includes a really cool Tula Pink fabric, the other one is autumn / harvest themed based on a Bernatex panel and will be for my MIL.

Sounds like a nice way to spend the day! I used to think I’m not really a Tula Pink fan, but considering that I have a few Tula Pink fabrics arriving today, I guess I’m more of a fan than I realized! I’m looking forward to seeing what you’re working on and I hope your day is extra productive (and cool)!

I don’t think of myself as a huge Tula Pink fan either, but this fabric just has such a nice print that would be perfect for the recipient. And I bought the fabric @sloth003 used a while ago in a quilt (I think it’s called nightshade coven or something?).

I, AudiobookLover, submit “Sew SSB sections 1-4 together and add quilted SSB borders,” for 2 of my goal list entries.

I have one week left to finish it. I ordered some table runner batting, which should be pretty easy to cut down to size. I need to sandwich, quilt, and bind. I will be using a bias binding for the first time, so that will be a learning experience. I am definitely looking forward to getting this finished (especially since it’s past the fun stage and is now at the work stage!). Oh and I just remembered I need to put the embellishments on once the rest is done. One week. I’ve got this.

It does look great! You’ve got this! I imagine it won’t need a lot of quilting, because the seperate sections were already quilted individually?
