Quiltalong - 2026

You’re right, it won’t need a lot. Just some stitch in the ditch to keep the front and back together. I want to keep it simple and quick. I’m thinking I might just stitch around the border and then maybe a line across where each of the sections were stitched together.

I was at a quilt exhibition today and fell in love with his. Inspired by Kandinsky (whom I don’t love) but turned edge applique and tiny tiny stitches

And I would’ve bought this, but it was already sold.

A small art quilt about 16" *16"

And a few more that I loved

There was a lot of applique this year.

What a variety! From very modern and geometric to vintage-looking! They are all lovely and a reminder of how creative quilting can be!

Time for the end of Quarter 2 Wrap-up!
Congratulations to @Edel and @MistressJennie on each getting double Bingos! You will both be receiving a Quilting After Dark Prize Pack!!

Congratulations to @EclecticDreamer and @Immaculata for both earning at least 7 points last quarter. I will be sending each of you a prize pack as well!!

I was hoping to have the prize packs done and ready to send out by today. But, that is not the case. I will continue to work on them and give everyone a heads up when they are on their way. If anyone else got a Bingo or earned 7 points or more last quarter, please let me know by the end of this Sunday.

I will be putting LittleBookLover to bed shortly and am hoping to get all of the Quarter 3 info up and running after that.

Quarter 3 Challenge:
(July 1 - September 30)
Create your own fabric and use it in a project.
For this challenge you don’t have to literally create your own fabric (though you could), it’s more like create the pattern/design on the fabric. Ice dyeing, tie dyeing, cyanotyping, batiking, painting, inking, block printing…any way you choose to alter a preexisting fabric to make it your own will work for this challenge.

Examples:
Fabric scraps used to create a new fabric - by @marionberries
A bit of an ice dyeing tutorial - by @Edel
Solar Printing - an in depth tutorial - by @MistressJennie
Fancy fabric made with stamps - by @Edel
Ice dyed cyanotyped fabric - by @Edel

July Prompt:
C, D, 7

All Star BOM - July:
or

Amish Star Block - nominated by @EclecticDreamer

Goal List:
New quarter, new goals…or possibly the same goals. Please share your third quarter goals with us. You can earn a ticket for every goal you share and complete!

I think I’ve managed all except for one prompt. But I’ll get it done!!

And (obvs) I adore the create your own fabric prompt. I’m hoping to do a year long evening class in textile surface design. Fingers crossed I’ll get in. Its completely daft, as it’s going to be a three hour round trip on Mondays, after a day at work. But I really really hope to get in.

Create Your Own fabric prompt gives me… well, serious motivation for about a dozen things lol. I’ve wanted to try shibori for a while, and need to practice stamping fabric (i took a class a couple years ago, and a friend wants me to teach her later).

I wish I could say my Star Spangled Beauty quilt was completed, but instead I can say it’s sandwiched and I have figured out the right tension to quilt with invisible thread (I went from 6.5 and slowly worked my way down to the appropriate 0.5 tension). Tomorrow’s agenda is to quilt and bind it while adding ties (in case one day it does get hung on a ladder) and pockets (so it can be hung on a wall or the back of a door). Fingers crossed that LittleBookLover is willing to just play and happily hang out tomorrow while I get the quilt finished before my husband arrives in the evening :crossed_fingers:. I wish I already had the binding prepared!

Hey–that is great progress! It is such a lovely quilt for many holidays or even just to show patriotic pride.

I am trying to get my bird quilt sandwich pinned, and the only clear table is out on the porch, which gets so hot in this heat wave. I want this thing done! And the dining room table is buried under the fence, and the shed rebuild paraphernalia.

But I also like keeping cool. Well, maybe next week when the heat breaks.

Well, shoot. I’m calling it. My quilt will not be finished before tomorrow. I feel disappointed and relieved (I’m relieved to no longer be frantically trying to finish it). The quilt is quilted, the binding is cut and sewn together, but I know it will take me time to iron the binding and sew it on. Plus, I still need to prep pockets and ties. Oh, and not forget the final step of embellishments.
I felt like I was on track and then I spent waaaay too much time trying to figure out the best way to cut the bias binding (so many of the videos were on how to cut a fat quarter, but I was working with a 14” x wof piece of fabric and I really didn’t want to mess it up since I don’t have a backup - too much overthinking and not enough doing!).
My husband will be here soon, I will need to get LittleBookLover ready for bed soon and while I really wanted the quilt done by tomorrow, that was only a deadline that I was putting on myself. It’s just not worth the stress. So, with a deep breath, I am letting it go. Now, to get the apartment picked up quickly :grimacing:, lol.

I’m sorry you weren’t able to finish it, but it is mostly done! I think it still looks good enough to display for decoration if you wanted to. If you are binding in a hurry you’re bound to make mistakes that take even more time to fix. Have fun tomorow! (or today, in my time zone).

I’m working on the surprise quilt that I can’t show. I used this pattern previously and it was such a hassle because the blocks ended up smaller than I wanted them to. This time I also can’t seem to sew and iron the blocks in a way they end up big enough. So, I just decided I don’t want any hassle. I’m just going to cut all of them to 5 3/4" instead of trying to get them to 6". It will make no difference for the quilt other than it will be a little bit smaller.

I think we all tend to put too much pressure on ourselves. I am glad you are calling it because it will be done, but just not on such a tight deadline when you have so many other things to do right now!

My sister is coming on Tuesday. I thought she was coming more towards the end of July. I was scrambling to get so many home projects done and worked myself into a frenzy. I had to stop myself and get real. She won’t care what is done or not. I am the one making the deadline. I picked three things I could done for sure and I am just going to enjoy this weekend with friends and craft.

I set myself a goal to finish the surprise quilt top today and I also didn’t reach it. I only had one row to go and I thought I could finish, but I just noticed I made a mistake in the last row, so that needs to be unpicked. And I probably made that mistake because I’m tired.

So, time for bed, the top will be finished tomorrow and hopefully I’ll be able to quilt it and the Frolic quilt too. Both are fairly small projects that will only need a little bit of straight line quilting, nothing fancy.

I, AIMR, submit this as my late April QBOM. It is also one of my goals to catch up and keep up with the QBOMs!

It is a six inch block that I will use to make another pouch.

I wouldn’t have thought to put those colours together, but I think it looks great!

Goal list Q3

  • Quilt and bind Frolic top
  • Quilt and bind Surprise quilt
  • Piece, quilt and bind sunflower quilt for MIL
  • Start summer quilt for myself
  • Keep up with BOMs
  • Make a plan for a retirement quilt for my mum (Q1 2027)

@AudiobookLover, instead of looking at the Star Spangled Beauty as a quilt you made for the holiday, why not think of it as the project you made to CELEBRATE the semiquincentennial? You are certainly putting amazing work into it, and you can look back on it for years to come, as the quilt you created at this special time.
