SOCKALONG with me - Knit, Crochet, Loom

The more I look at mine the more I think I’ll be joining you at the yarn winder. I’ll never actually want to wear it and what’s the point then? That yarn was pricey, too. I’d rather have a project I am pleased to use or give as a gift.

I agree, even though I’ve encouraged you to finish it, if you won’t wear it, start over or use the yarn for something else.

Started January 22nd. Frogged eleventy-million times. Finished sock #1. Hopefully sock#2 does not take another 6 months lol
I decided to see it through, hot mess though it is, when my kidlet looked at me and said, “It doesn’t have to be perfect, nothing has to be perfect.” Which, of course, are my own words thrown back at me.

So here it is, warts and all:

Looks great to me, too! The colors remind me of neopolitan ice cream!

That looks great & also like it fits perfectly!

Thanks, friends. I’m calling them my Socks of Great Distraction to justify the many little errors. Kids and cables just don’t mix- at least in this house! Lol

Ahhh, maybe THAT’S what drew me to it! :icecream:

When I unpacked my box of yarn I picked out a few balls of leftover bits of yarn, put some scraps together and made a plan for 3 pairs of scrappy socks. All ankle socks, 10 rows of ribbing before the heel starts. I’m nearly done with sock 1/6 and so far I like the look. I’ve got a self-striping red yarn matched with plain red, a self-striping green and purple yarn matched with plain purple, I still need figure out what matches best to the self-striping blue yarn.

Ankle socks are so fast to knit, ribbing annoys me but it’s only 10 rows, then the heel and turning it which is the most fun part (to me) then a couple of rows knitting straight ahead aaaand you’re already at the toe. These are all plain vanilla socks so I don’t need a pattern. I always keep thinking I want to make interesting socks but I never do. I do really love seeing all your complex patterned socks, but then I remember those take six months and I can knit a pair of ankle socks in 3 days.

I do really want to try those cable socks though, I  cables.

To be fair, I think only my socks take six months… (because I keep putting them in time-out! haha)

I made scrappy socks!! I split the variegated yarn in two by weight, but apparantly I wasn’t paying attention when I weighed, because the second ball of yarn was a bit bigger than the first. I only found out when I was knitting the second sock. I was tempted to even them out but that would have left me with a tiny tiny leftover bit of the variegated yarn, too small to use and too big to throw away. So I didn’t and now they’re extra scrappy.

The reds aren’t an exact match but that doesn’t bother me.

You ARE fast with that pattern!
I love scrappy socks. They and stripey socks are my faves.
My Christmas sock #5 of 6 is at the heel turn, I an struggling a bit with how the pattern is written so i need to dig out the one I understand to be sure I’m doing it right.

The sockalong sock stalled this week. We were in a high humidity heat wave that made it impossible for me to pay good attention. I think I have done zero yarn work all week! But today is glorious! Dry, cool breezes, the house feels airy and light (not like the swamp cave like it has been) I feel good about some yarning happening today!

I hope you find the time to knit! That would be a great way to spend a Sunday.

We had a couple of hot and humid weeks but it’s been very rainy and cold recently, so perfect weather to stay indoors, and between that and a husband out of town I’ve had a lot of time for knitting.

They look great! IMO, scrappy socks don’t need to match perfectly - it’s part of their charm.

These are fabulous - I think the extra scrappy makes them even better!

I’m in that phase of projects when I feel like I’m never going to finish what I’ve started on and all the other shiny new ideas will never get their chance and yet I can’t start any of them because I promised myself I would finish these before starting more stuff and living in a Land of WiPs but the dragging on and on of these is making completion challenging and some stuff is seasonal so then they’ll have to be for next year and….

End of report

Update: I am frogging the yarnspirations second sock and starting over. This is mot pleasant, but I dropped nearly a whole middle needle worth of stitches and am just making things worse as I try to recapture them. Oh well. I guess now that chunky mistake I have been ignoring from earlier will stop nagging me now.

You have just stated why I don’t think I could ever knit socks (or gloves)
