SOCKALONG with me - Knit, Crochet, Loom

My solo craftalong sock is still languishing without a partner as well, but so far i’m still planning to do the 2nd one. I’ve decided that “Spring cleaning” includes a going through of any WiPs and taking action whether it be to finish or frog.

I’ve been inspired to pick up the sock today that’s been hibernating for a while. I want to get past the gusset so I have an easy project to tote around.

My Spring time goal is to reduce all WiPs to zero before the start of Summer so I can have a clean slate going forward. Having finished the fingerless gloves in the WiP bag I’m circling back to the sockalong sock of a million yarn-years ago. I frogged the second sock ages ago as it was all kinds of wrong and now I am playing the fun game of “hmmm, which needles was I using again?” :upside_down_face:
If I didn’t have a completed first sock it wouldn’t matter so much (And probably I would be skip-to-my-louing right over this pattern) but here we go anyway! Wish me luck!

Day 5:

Just realized I pulled from the wrong end of the ball to start this second sock. Oh well! Just keep swimming, just keep swimming… :fish::yarn:

Day 8:

Day 9:
Ready for the heel turn!

Day 10:

Day 11: (set up round for 8 stitch cable)
Day 12: first 8 stitch cable round complete+

Day 13:
Realize that the first big cable is wrong. I did too many rows between. And dropped and mangled some stitches. Continuing anyway. These are for me and I’d rather that they be finished than frogged back and fixed.

Looks good! The first sock is nice, so finishing the pair will be worth it. Also, smart to start the new season without WIPs.

My sock knitting needles are a set, and they have a different colour for each size, so I usually scroll back in my pictures when I’m not sure which size I used.

Ever been to a Crank-In? My wife iis running a 3 day circular sock knitting machine crank-in. 30+ people making socks and learning new techniques. Some make hats and mittens too.

That’s so cool!!

At our last knitting guild meeting, we had two presenters. One had a sock machine that she purchased while in Massachusetts. It was fascinating to see and hear all about her sock making adventures. She is also learning to make fingerless gloves!

The other had a larger, much more affordable modern circular machine that made hats, scarves and simple rectangles.

First sock is off the needles. I’ll start the second one later today. I ran out of yarn, so the toe is just solid black.

I wouldn’t have guessed it wasn’t intentional.

Thanks! It’s the same yarn brand, so it worked out just fine. I’m thinking of using solid colors more often to stretch those cute patterned/hand-dyed yarns across more projects. It might help me bust my yarn stash more thoroughly, too, and that would be very welcome.

I do it all the time to use up scraps. I can imagine it would also help a lot in stretching more expensive yarns, especially if you do both the toe and the heel in a different colour.

I got four socks out of one 100gr ball of patterned sparkly yarn.

All of these are completely random scraps from my stash put together, different brands and not bought together. You’d never guess.

That’s the style I like anyway in my socks! Colorful and random. Those are all so lovely and I think using a mix of yarns also is a good way to use stash and there are endless possibilities so that you never get the same sock twice!

I have a lot of solid sock yarns that I just let sit in my stash because they are boring to make socks from, but, now I am also using them for toes, heels and cuffs…I might try a solid sock with a variegated toe/heel/cuff combo as well…so many ideas! Plus, I love your shortie socks…much more my style!

I bought the beekeeper’s knit quilt pattern (link goes to etsy) for the random sock yarns… just gotta actually finish socks first! Lol

This is a really cool pattern!

@AIMR I like those shortie socks as well, I only wear long socks when I’m wearing boots. They’re also 50% faster to knit! You could also use solid yarns to make simple striped socks. Or more complicated patterns, like Nordic socks. I’ve never done Nordic knitting but it looks cool.
