I started these the other day!
I’d not done colourwork in the round before, only on flat pieces, and it is indeed a bit of a struggle to keep the tension right. Balls always tangle as well but making bobbins seems just as much as a hassle.

The colorwork is so pretty!
Done!
This stitched up quite quickly! It’s fun, the yarn is easy to work with (Drops Karisma) and the yarn is a worsted weight, the sock is knitted on 3,5mm needles. I’m sure I made some counting mistakes but I haven’t noticed them. The socks are nice and warm and they’re great to wear around the house but they’re too bulky to wear in shoes.
Amazing! It looks great and so cozy warm.
@Immaculata …super cute and super fast! All I see is a fun patterned sock!
Adorable! I love house socks.
Gorgeous! So nice having such pretty house socks.
Thanks! I’ve cast on the second sock and I liked knitting them, but I’m not a big fan of the pattern (free pattern by Drops) . At least the Dutch version is written in a confusing way, I don’t have an English version so I’m not sure if that one is better. When you have some sock experience it’s easy enough to figure it out, but I’m a bit annoyed by it.
I feel a bit the same way about the Drops patterns I’ve made in the past. They have some really nice designs, and they’re freely accessible, which is great! But I wouldn’t recommend them to an inexperienced knitter, there were some questions I had to figure out myself.
I thought that it might have been a translation issue, but it sounds like it’s just a Drops issue.
I had told myself, no more socks for a while, but I’m meeting a new craft group tomorrow and I want an easy craft. Something I can do while meeting new people. So I’m thinking of casting on a plain vanilla sock tonight and knitting the cuff, so I can knit the leg tomorrow.
Sounds like Drops…
Hey–anyone interested in making some summer socklets?
I found a quick and easy pattern and would like any of you to join in making the same pattern. It is free. Let me know and I will post it.
ooo…maybe! As soon as I’m done with my tank I’ll be looking for a pattern. I think I have some sock yarn lying around…
Got it!!
Well after at least 15 tries, I finally got how to do the Judy Magic cast on with size one needles! I moved up to size two…ha ha…
A very interesting sock knit for me. I also realized that I need to make a knitting bag just for socks. I have so many useful tools that I forget about when they are dumped into my huge knitting basket!
Yay! Looking good! I might try to cast on this week/weekend.
Have you guys ever used nylon knitting thread in your socks? I don’t wear a lot of my own knit socks because I don’t like the feel of them being loose. Even when I make them smaller, the yarn still feels lose to me. I’d like to add some sort of elastic thread or something to my socks. Any help would be appreciated.
EDITED: Just bought some knitting elastic so I am going to try it to see how it works. I watched some YouTube videos that show how you can weave it into existing saggy socks as well. If it works, I will be making a lot more socks for myself.
Turns out I don’t have size 1 DPNs or circulars, so I will also be using 2s. @AIMR - how is it with the DPNs vs magic loop? My circular set only goes down to size 3.
I wouldn’t make this pattern again. It is a real bear. Most of it is worked flat on two needles (circular or DPN’s) so there is a lot of purling. Plus, she uses short rows using wrap and turn that I hate so I had to convert all of those to German short rows. I managed to get one sock done but it will be a struggle for me to be motivated for the second one.
I am going to do a shortie sock in the round instead…I swear this little sock has taken way over the time that I thought it would just because of all the many things:
Things I didn’t like AT ALL:
Judy’s Magic Cast On–fiddly, which is why I like top down socks…I would rather do Kitchner than this
Lots of purling and slip stitching
Ribbing done flat (so purl one, knit one…ugh)
Short Rows
Color Changes
Sizing confusion
Super lengthy bind off…you are binding off the entire length of your foot!
Her videos help, but it is hard to see what she is doing…she just sort of talks through it without showing a lot of detail or repeats
We need a shortie sock that is fast and easier than this!!!
