I recieved a box of 28 watercolor postcard blanks for Christmas. Last year my resolution was to do 24 tutorials in 2024. This year my resolution is to use all 28 postcard blanks utilizing different techniques and/or tutorials for each. Here are my first 4.
Inspired very, very loosely based on a tutorial from Lets Make Art on YouTube. I really wanted to make the piece shown in the tutorial but my watercolor powder was a bajillion times darker and acted quite differently so I ended up making something different.
My hope is to stretch my art skills, challenge myself to try lots of new techniques, and have fun along the way. As for the postcards themselves: some will go out as happy mail, some will make their way to this year’s STS swap, and one or two may make it onto my art wall.
They’re gorgeous!
Numbers 2 and 4 are my favorites.

What a manageable way to learn something new and make something you can use at the same time! Do you keep some sort of art journal to record the tutorials and any notes you might have?
I did that with an online class I took so in effect, it creates your own manual to refer to! I think I mentioned that once before…I’ll get some pics of mine to show what I mean.
Your little flower house reminds me of the House of Moomin valley. But yours is way cuter!
And the forest with the wolf! Its great!
And what a great project you have here!
They’re so pretty! Anyone would love to receive one in the mail. I love your project for using all 28 to try new skills! I look forward to seeing the following parts.
@AIMR - thanks! I don’t keep an art journal but I wish I had the discipline to do so. I know, however, I’d probably never revisit it. I’m such a flighty thing and never seem to stick to one craft or style. My heart is always chasing after something new to try.
What a great idea! I’m looking forward to your updates throughout the year. Also, thanks for linking the tutorials.
all 4 postcards are wonderful, and so different from each other. Currently, I’m particularly drawn to the first one, the birds are so cute and whimsical
@tanath - thank you! You should give the birds one a try, it’s really fun and you don’t need a lot of supplies, just some watercolor paint, paper, and a brush or two!
@Manders - Thank you! I love that one best as well. I haven’t decided what to do with the other three yet, but my mom claimed the blue forrest. She adores blue and once she saw that picture it was all over.
You’re amazing! These are all lovely, but I must say my faves are #1 and #4. Honestly, if any of them showed up in my mailbox, I’d be thrilled! Can’t wait to see what you do next!
