For whatever reason, closing a project and weaving in ends are like the hardest part for me. I can start them all day long but when it comes to weaving in ends, pass

For hats, I just loop the thread to make a small knot and use a crochet hook to weave it down thru for about an inch. I use knot joins for color changes so I don’t have to weave in anything. I hate that part as well.

My MIL does it that way…we have a couple beautiful baby blankets that can’t be used because they’ve started to unravel. So much work just to fall apart after one use.

I have an afghan that I made in 1999 that has gone through many washings. All of my crochet striped blankets are also done that way since each row is a different color. I wonder if she is just doing a plain knot? I forgot the name of the knot I use, but it is nearly impossible to get loose at all. I’ll see if I can find it…a normal knot will definitely come loose and that is a shame!

I’m sure her knots are nothing fancy. But, those one inch pieces of yarn are sticking out everywhere on the granny square blanket and I have tried to re-knot and repair the holes, but it’s too unstable to use. And I’ve dropped all kinds of hints and tutorials on her in the hope that the next gift she makes for someone doesn’t unravel, but after 60+ years of crochet, she’s set in her ways.

That’s a shame…I know she means well, but it is hard to change some people. I showed this to an 80 year old woman in my knitting group and now she is my “best” friend…ha ha ha

It is what it is. I’m stubborn, too. But, my dad was an engineer and taught me to err on the side of caution and reinforce things, even if it might not be necessary.

…until he has to take it apart… I am that way with sewing…sometimes I hate that I sew it TOO good, especially if I have to rip it out…have to find a balance most of the time…

We went to a performance of The Nutcracker on Sunday and when choosing the wardrobe I realized Kidlet has adorable dresses- sleeveless- amd zero cardigans or anything similar. So I am busting out some 10 year old stash white baby yarn, holding it double, amd knitting a shrug. She’ll be able to use it at dance class, too.

Aw! I wanted to do Nutcracker this year, but I don’t think I can make it work time and money wise. Hopefully next year! Love that you guys went!! Did she love it??

She did! She isnt quite ready for the big show by Boston Ballet so we did a smaller more local show. It was perfect for us and not an overstimulating event (train rides with elbow to elbow commuters and stressing about time, huge ornate theaters and bustling crowds) so we kept our In Public Manners all the way through the outing. That makes a mom happy lol
In a year or so if she still loves dance maybe we’ll go up to the city, but it’s a long day (travel over an hour both ways) for us right now.

I totally get it. I want to go to the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall with the girls, but it is an EVENT. I’m exhausted just thinking about it, lol. We’ll get there, but I’m not ready yet.

I’m at that stage when I carry around two projects and make zero progress.
I’m on the second one of a pair of wristwarmers, and while it’s not a difficult pattern it takes some brain juice to get going.
Other project just has the finishing. Unpick the temporary cast on and then graft. I like grafting and finishing, but… it’s a new step and takes some brain juice to get started.
I could start swatching for my cardigan, but I’m not doing that either. I’ve been fiddling around with my tablet and finished a soduko.
