Nutcracker Along 2026

Nutcracker Season will be here before we know it and have a reason to get one underway for an early October birthday, so I gotta get on it!

This thread is for all kinds of nutcrackers! ANY medium, ANY theme, ANY size, ANY number. We’ll run this through the middle of January 2027 - just in case a nutcracker or two don’t get quite finished before their traditional season has passed.

Here is a Pin Board I started for the 2020 Nutcracker Along and have been adding to since. If you message me your Pinterest name, I can add you so you can add Pins there, too! There is A LOT of variety that could give a kernel of an idea for your own unique nutcracker.

Please join and LET’S GET CRACKIN’!

Addendum: Let’s keep the excitement going: post your progress shots, talk about this-or-that choices, ask questions/seek advice, share nutcrackers spotted in the wild or online!

I’ve just started on a Nutcracker that will be a 50th birthday gift for an early October birthday, but it is a Christmas/winter nutcracker - a snowman! I’ve gathered a bunch of materials, made a few lists, and even asked the recipient an odd question.

I haven’t added to my nutcracker collection in years. I might have to join in!

Yes, please!

I need to pull fabrics out and check, but I THINK I have enough red velvet and black tulle to make a Nutcracker inspired Christmas outfit for myself… Sounds totally over the top, but why not?

Oh, that sounds fabulous!

Somewhere, I have a bag of wooden ornaments (lots are nutcrackers) that I’ve been intending to turn into a wreath, similar to the one in the Pinterest link. Maybe I’ll play, too!

I have never gone down the rabbit hole of nutcrackers, despite always loving them. That pin board has so many great ideas! I’d never considered a nutcracker not being winter themed. Wow.

This sounds fun! I’ve been wanting to join a craft along but I always put it on the back burner.

I may end up removing the snowman from the base and reattaching, because he leans a bit. Unlike the arms and nose, he is stuck well to the base.

I have some other things to do before moving forward with my nutcracker, but I did decide to paint a couple of red faceted plastic self-adhesive embellishments black to look a bit like coal for eyes.

Has anyone found some inspiration? Or remembered an idea from the past that they’re considering making? Let’s hear what you’ve ruminated! It doesn’t have to come to fruition.

I found my bag of wooden ornaments. There are quite a few nutcrackers. All were purchased at yard sales, usually for 25 cents or less.

I’m a bit stuck. Trying to decide whether a styrofoam wreath will be strong enough, or if I need to make something out of wood.

That’s an amazing stash of wee nutcrackers! I wonder if that really dense green foam would be strong enough? Esp if you wired them to it?
