@Immaculata, the pink star really sets off the fussy-cut bird square. Beautifully done!
When I made the heart blocks, I added a second row of stitching so I could salvage the off cuts. I ended up with 50 HST’s that were nearly 4”. Whenever I had a free few minutes I pressed and trimmed them down to 3.5”. Tonight I got a chance to lay them out into a variation of January’s BOM and did a first round of piecing. I hope to finish the block tomorrow.
Beautiful!
What a great idea to do the extra stitching…I will start doing that because there sure are a lot of HSTs in star blocks!
Sunrise star is beautiful!
-I MistressJennie, submit this as my late January BOM entry.
The HST’s are 3.5”, so it comes to 18.5”. I think I’m going to add a small border and turn it into a pillow or wall quilt.
It would be an adorable pillow or wall quilt for Ada! Gorgeous work!
I am making two sizes and colorways, both flannel (a free donation), for each BOM, and here is the 12” size. I simply love this one! I wasn’t excited about the Feb BOM, it read too similar to the Jan BOM. But I rose to the challenge and had some fun.
I apparently channelled the raven block I recently made. The tie-dye center was perfect.
I love how everyone’s variations on each BOM are so inspired. The magic of quilting! I mean, just look at @MistressJennie , @Magpie, @Immaculata, and @tendstowardschaos blocks!
Here are the two month’s blocks measure up.
Thanks for showing the side-by-sides! Two totally different feels, but both gorgeous!
Has anyone tried Gütermann Sulky thread for machine quilting? I was looking for a zipper and some sewing thread in the local haberdashery shop and on the top of the Gütermann case I saw this really pretty variegated thread. It had a printed sign saying “quilting thread” . I’d never noticed it before, it’s a similar weight to topstitch thread. The colour I got is 4033, it’s variegated purple - black. I have a Halloween tote bag planned in black and purple and I think this thread would be perfect for it.
I, AIMR, offer this quilted tote bag as a goal list completion. It is made from an unfinished jelly roll quilt top. The body of the bag is quilted with lime green straight line stitching.
This video reminded me so much of @kittykill . It’s a quilt with vintage doilies, super pretty.
That gray and yellow quilt was gorgeous!
I, AIMR, submit this as a late January QBOM. It is also on my goal list.
Oh, and I made it smaller to use it for a project I have in mind ![]()
Yeah, 1 inch HSTs…what was I thinking?
Today’s Bingo prompt is:
Clean your machine
@AIMR I love the cheery red vibe. And the itsy-bitsy one! One inch squares are a challenge and you nailed it.
Have you ever tried this method?
Yes, I have used that method to do inch blocks. There was a swap on the old site where we made inch blocks using scraps of one color. I did orange, yellow and blue. Elizabeth Hartman also has a tutorial but I think it was drawing your own grid.
I, AIMR, submit this mini wall quilt from a kit as completed goal as well as a bingo prompt!
In addition, it meets the February prompt as follows:
Z-zebra print fabric
V-violet color in fabrics
2-at least two other colors, lime green and teal
This was a very easy kit to do. The only hitch was that the colored pattern on the kit did not match the cutting instructions and there was not enough fabric to make the colored pattern. The only difference is the large corner squares.
I had a bugger of a time with one corner of the binding but fixed it by hand since it is not going to show the back anyway.

Cute little extra I found in the fabric!
You had mentioned that there wasn’t enough fabric to make it the same as the picture and I was wondering what you’d meant. Now I see. Nice save! I like how you quilted this. Congratulations on getting it done. You’ve been on a roll!
Thanks! The cutting instructions matched what I made so the inside instructions were good anyway! I got the kit off Etsy for really cheap. I doubt that the seller was aware of this. She was very nice and even sent some handmade extras in my package!
It came out beautifully!
