Rose Garden Quilt for Family Reunion

I put together this sweet little quilt for a raffle item at my husband’s family reunion, which was this past weekend. The pattern is called Rose Garden, and it was created specifically to use with a mini Layer Cake fabric bundle. I won the pattern and Mini Layer Cake from the wonderful @AudiobookLover in a previous round of the Quiltalong. Back in 2021 or 2022.

The fabric line is out of print, but I found some pieces available on Etsy to use for the border and binding. The background and backing fabrics are from Joann’s. Since it was for an event, I decided to add an embroidered label to the back.

My SIL Heather won it in the raffle, so I know it’s gone to a good home. I enjoyed the pattern, and it was pretty simple. Just two different blocks. I’m really curious to swhat it would look in a drastically different color palette.

It’s pretty, lucky recipient. I like that you added the fancy label, too. It adds to the memory-making/provenance for future family tree storytelling.

Love the pops of spring colors with the neutrals! What a lovely prize to win! I am sure it will be appreciated in the upcoming winter months…so cozy!

The fabrics in the collection give me strong Great British Bake Off vibes. I feel like we should sit on it in the garden, while eating a Bakewell Tart.

Each year’s raffle helps fund the next year’s reunion. People donate items, then everyone buys tickets and puts them in for items they want to win. There are usually themed baskets, like this year there was a Netflix Binge Watching Basket, and a Made in Maryland Basket from family members who live there. We won a kids art supply basket for Ada, full of construction paper, watercolor paints, colored pencils, googly eyes, etc. The family in question, is my husband’s mom’s side. (Actually she’s a member here. Hey @Millykay!) She’s the youngest of 10 kids, so it’s all 10 kids (those who are still with us), and all their kids and grandkids. This year, someone brought a quilt made by MillyKay’s mom in the 1950’s. That original owner of the quilt didn’t have any kids to pass it down to, so they donated it so someone else in the family could get it.

Oh, and @Jennalou cross stitched some adorable mini Van Gogh pieces for the auction too! Jenn, I hope you share them here!

This is so pretty. I like the serene colors but I bet bright colors would change it completely. Are you going to do it again with different fabrics? This was an awesome prize. It turned out amazing!
